Trip to the Outer Hebrides
Holiday looming,
Earlier post re Scottish dealers/ garages has prompted me to also ask the same question, does anyone one know the situation on Harris & Lewis ?
Any recommendations or experiences would be gratefully received.
Sailing from the tip of Skye to Tarbet... For two weeks early July....
Thanks
Mark

hi mark
think you are refering to my question..
i was surprised to see how few agents there are in the HIGHLANDS
also the shortage of national car hire firms.should you require one.
we have rac recovery ,,,,been a member for 48 years.........this week upgraded for £33..to onward journey...
the rac get you a hire car and hotel for a few days if you get trouble....think you will be ok for recovery on skye but may pay to check out rac for the other islands.
trust like me you have good trip....we re off tomorrow
regards

Thanks Norman... Useful tip hadn't even considered Recovery with RAC or AA .... I have recovery via Barclays.... RAC ..have used them once and that was an ordeal...and that was a straight forward trip from Bristol Airport to home.
Enjoy your trip ....

my thoughts were that these places although lovely are remote and without services we grow to expect...
getting in trouble with breakdown or medical emergency could cause a lot of stress and expense.
think our costs for rac for the year are about £120 per year which would be peanuts if you need to find your own way home after an event without rac or similar

If you're after a main dealer I suspect the only choice you have is Inverness or Elgin. Unless dangerdave knows different.

When my turbo went SNAFU about 20 miles N of Campbeltown the car got recovered to a local garage. They couldn't even read the faults using 3 different readers so whilst they suspected the turbo they couldn't do anything. Recovery truck to Grantoon & then on to LR Elgin after holiday. Deffo not a time to be without recovery as it would have cost me several hundred £s. You can never be too paranoid when it comes to having the cost if getting home covered.
