Worth getting 17" wheels for offroad? |
|
There's a set of 17"s I'm watching on ebay, only 500 miles on them and I'm wondering about getting these for offroad use while keeping the 18" wheels for road rather than getting AT2s for everyday use on the 18s or even getting another set of 18s with AT2s (when they arrive in the UK).
Apart from Cooper ATR/ST/STT in 2#5/70/17, what other alternatives are there available in the UK that will work offroad without the risk of fouling? I don't want to be removing bits of trim to accomodate an oversize tyre. And what experiences have people had of the ST and STT in muddy UK conditions? I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

It's much better to get a set of 17"ers for off road, and there's loads of cheap 17inch wheels around cheap from people who pimp their rides.
Witha dedicated set of offroad wheels you won't worry about them getting scratched to bu66ery. I have 17's with STTs on. They work well offroad and proper offroad tyres are less prone to ripped sidewalls.

17" wheels? I was told they will ot fit. |
|
I have an '05 V8 HSE. My dealer told me that 17" rims would not clear the brake calipers. Was there any machining required?

Sadly Mrs Do$h has vetoed having an extra set of wheels "cluttering up the place" for now (although I do have a couple of 18s in the garage at the mo). Let's wait until I've pranged an 18" and a Scorpion and had to replace those and see if she still feels the same way...... I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

I've just spoken with my local Protyre and they are trying to get a firm date for AT2 in 255/60/18 112. If it's next Friday I will be a happy man I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Nah, it means I can get the AT2s fitted before the Salisbury weekend and sell the Scorpions on ebay, doing away with the need for another set of wheels and clearing the "clutter" of a load of road tyres clogging up the workshop. I'm having images of Wedgie going sideways in the gloop with Scorpions fitted. I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.
