Fridge

Trying to convince SWMBO that a fridge would be a good idea, however not sure what to look for re make/features etc.
Also how std single battery would cope.

Any pointers appreciated.

I would opt for a very good battery or best bet is a split charge system. National Luna are very good.

I got a Waeco CTX40 from MPS - Sponsor on here.

Brilliant bit of kit - I run it off the cranking battery and has been fine so far - on all night no issue, though do then run the car the next day (Or I have done so far!) and it is fine.

Has an automatic shutdown feature if the battery voltage gets too low.

The 40 also fits under the boot cover - which SWMBO likes Thumbs Up

England

I've got an Engel - brilliant piece of kit, great for family or camping use.

With fridges you get what you pay for - cheap ones won't cool as well, and will flatten the battery quickly.

Another thumbs-up for MPS

Also got an Engel, not cheap but excellent. As a friend says buy cheap, buy twice. As I did with a warm box. Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry

I got a Waeco CF50 DZ from MPS on here:

http://www.mps-waeco.co.uk/

Brilliant piece of kit. It has been on permanently for 2 years either in the car on the split charge battery or in the garage to to give us additional fridge / freezer capacity.

When its in the car I have it strapped to the middle seat in the lowered position. Power is fed to it via a permanently live socket in the boot. I bought a TMax split charge system and Oddessey PC1500 battery that lives by the brake servo in the front of the car. Really easy to fit and very reliable.

Highly recommended. Thumbs Up

I spent a few months researching fridges, and finally bought the National Luna Twin Weekender Fridge/Freezer. It works great as it keeps the ice cream and ice cubes frozen, along with keeping the beers nice and cold. Thumbs Up I also got the National Luna split charger system, and battery monitor. Will be installing an Optima yellow top as a second battery. (When it arrives Rolling Eyes )The battery monitor allows me to link the 2 batteries together when I need the extra power when winching. 35mm cable to connect the 2 batteries, and 25 mm to the back to run the fridge, and other things if need be.

Cheers
John

Waeco and National Luna use Danfoss compressors which are very reliable, the NL is really well made and will last a lifetime. Engel use a swing motor with only one moving part so in theory should be ultra reliable. There are other makes like the ARB fridge which I believe has a Danfoss BD35 compressor in it with modified electronics resulting in a very low current draw, it also has some nice features. Contact Buellbeast as he might be selling his Waeco CF-80

Had an engel 45 since 2008, probably the best bit of expedition kit I have brought. Use it also for the odd BBQ for extra beer storage on the 230v plug Thumbs Up

Had my Engel since 1997. It still works perfectly (you watch it will break down now!). I have recently purchased a WAECO as well so I can have a fridge and freezer. I really wish I had spent the extra money and got another Engel. The 45ltr Waeco was on offer at AUD 600 and the Engels were AUD 1100, but, I do think the Engel are better.
