Need good LPG workshop for STAG-300 conversion on my V8 SE |
|
Hi, had my V8 SE for a year now, mostly excellent.
LPG conversion is STAG-300, not many workshops seem to know the product.
My LPG consumption has averaged 14.5 mpg, mostly long runs, which is not as good as several other V8 LPG owners have reported.
I had injectors replaced with Prinz/Prins, fuel consumption is now 15.5, but still seems thirsty, esp. as I'm a very easy-going driver.
So, I'm looking for a STAG-savvy LPG engineer (UK) to review the settings.
LPG was installed by previous owners, I didn't spot FlashLube was wrongly wired and not working, so drove 10k miles with no lube. Fixed that now, and engine mostly sweet (slight valve ticking comes/goes) so just hoping not much exhaust valve damage was done (engine is 4.3L Jag V8, most agree it does need valve lube).
So, would anyone recommend a trusty STAG engineer please ?

Having ran a couple of LPG cars, one of them a 4L Jeep I converted myself, I would say that 15mpg out of a V8 is on the money. What does it do on petrol with the same sort of driving, 18-19 if you're careful ? You'll always see a couple of mpg less with lpg so I think you are on a hiding to nothing searching for any more out of it to be honest

I don't have an LPG car anymore but when I did and I had problems the best garage out there seemed to be Autogas 2000 in Thirsk. john's a great bloke and will see you right, I travelled up to him one day from Herts and it was well worth the journey. -------------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks for guidance :-)))) |

Just want to say thanks kindly NJSS, Mike_Hammond, hgrimmett for very welcome advice / thoughts.
Maybe I'm hoping for too much on the fuel economy front .......... but I've never run my D3 on petrol for long enough to get decent data on consumption to help set a baseline.
Perhaps I'll sit tight short term until I've survived another upcoming expense - tyres. Hah, these D3s are fab. vehicles but you need to be able to absorb the running expenses.
Cheers & thanks,
Kevin
