ironic isn't it... manufacturers have made their vehicles heavier year on year. This in part due to more stringent safety regs from the EU... so now we have to pay extra for the vehicle and the insurance because they are safer

Read this in the Mail yesterday. Seems the insurance industry is jumping on the 'bash 4x4's" hype as an excuse to put prices up, in the same way that HM Gov is jumping on the green band wagon to put motoring taxes up.
I actually think it will not amount to much, as there is a lot of competition in the car insurance market place. For every heavy car that has a 'fault' accident, there will be a heavy car that has a 'no fault' accident which should cancel out the problem IMO.
Its the muppet kids who drive recklessly around our towns in souped up hot hatches that should be worrying us all. To be honest, thats one reason I drive a heavy car - self defence.

That's it. I've had it. I'm leaving.

Worth following the link - there is a poll there "should 4x4s pay more insurance" - currently 2:1 against - if you feel like adding another "against" vote, it can't hurt! Although, I guess this story is going to be read more by 4x4 drivers, so perhaps not the most scientific test! D4 XS MY12 Galway
