Try taking the infotainment fuse out, let the D4 go to sleep then after 5 min refit.
Works for dodgy CD players, so might work for USBs.

Slightly off OP's question - is there a maximum size USB stick that can be used in D4 for mp3 playback?

Limited by how it's formatted - can be FAT or FAT32 (FAT32 can go up to 2TB).
I use a 64GB USB formatted for FAT32 and no problems with it.

Did you manage to sort out this issue? I'm having the same problem with a USB stick. Could it be cos I formatted it with a Mac?

Re USB size...

Hi Marsky

I note you use a 64GB USB;

I use a 64GB USB formatted for FAT32 and no problems with it.

I use a 32GB and it can take 5 minutes to load the tracks up. How long does it take a 64GB disk? Is there any way to format it to make it load quicker?

Thanks

I'm assuming it "loads-up" as-and-when you move through the menu list and select a file. So there's no lag.
The manual says FAT and FAT32. I would go with formatting it using FAT32, which is do-able through Windows.

Thanks Marsky,

I'm sure it's FAT 32 already so will just have to bear the wait for the tracks to load up.....there are over 4000 on there so I'm sure I can put up with a bit of a wait for such a selection.

Regards

Marvin.

Hi KJS

does that mean, the above mentioned sticks from Kingston and Sandisk don't work in your D4 or do they behave like allforus reported?

I have an 128 GB PNY Stick (USB 2.0) which generally works in my D4 (MY2013).
The car recognises the stick and I can play music which is stored on it.

I have two strange issues which I weren't able to sort out till now:
1. The system shows some folders, but can't find the music or the subfolders in them
2. Some songs (only a few) start playing and the system aborts after 15 - 30 seconds (sounds similar to the problem from allforus

I have to say that I have my music stored in mp3 (most of them coded with vbr) and in a folder structure with artist on the first level and then another level for albums under which the files are stored.

I tried to delete the critical folders, change the coding of some of the files which causes problems from vbr to fix bitrate and even re-downloaded some albums which aren't shown from a different source.
I also checked the stick with some diagnosis tools and re-formated it (FAT32).
Till now without any success.

Next thing I will do is to copy the critical files and folders to another stick to eliminate another possible factor.

It's not a major issue, because the system handles most of the music, but I am curious about the reason for the strange behaviour in the cases described above.[/list]
