Hello,
What is the best choice of GIS or topo-map software for use on a laptop with a GPS antenna?

Depends on where you want available mapping for...
Touratech(TTQV) or Fugawi are good 'global' systems, Garmin mapping is pretty shallow and expensive

Try oziexplorer: www.oziexplorer.com
You can load topo maps or even convert geotiff maps or airial photos. Check ozi exploere 3D. If you are punning 'puter you can do the lot there is a striped down version for PDAs. Very Happy
