Pirelli Scorpion tyres : what does M+S mean ?

SWMBO reckons that the disco's tyres are winter tyres as they have M+S identified on them. As they are nearing the end of their life I was going to replace them with a set of Winters but alas I may be wasting my time as I have a new set of the same that I assumed were summer/all weather.

In summary the worn scorpions were coming off with their rims and were going to be built up as a set of winter wheels, a new set were going on (exactly the same, with M&S) for summer use.

She spouted something in her native tongue that apparently means "Slush and Slow". Don't ask me what it was, I only understand the phrases that mean I'm in trouble.

Are they winter tyres ?

What should I be fitting for summer Road use ?

What should I be fitting for winter Road use ?
Gone but far from forgotten 55' plate HSE.

Mud & snow, nor winters. Thumbs Up

Re winter use, depends what you're going to do with the car. With any mud at all winters will be pants but if on road only then they are best. If mix of uses a good all terrain like Pirelli ATR or GG AT is best year round.

All IMHO, other opinions are out there. Whistle

PS Here's the winter tyre symbol. M+S doesn't mean offroad use either as these are 15" winters for SWMBO's Jazz.

As an all season tyre (for the lack of wanting a set of wheels and tyres in the garage), is there anything better than the OEM Scorpions?

Having a winter and summer set is no problem, Christmas is also spent in Germany sometimes where it is not legal, at that time of year, to have anything but winter tyres.

Some peeps run winters all year round, not my cup of tea as I occasionally go offroad. Wouldn't like to be on winters in these temps but that's just my opinion, lots do & don't have problems. I use Pirelli ATRs in every condition and happy as a pig in proverbial, they do everything I need with no increase in noise or fuel use, plus they last ~50k. Mr. Green

If that was me I'd have an set of ATRs for general/summer/offroad use and winters for road use only after start of Nov, or only for Chrimbo trip. Re the legality of German tyres, ISTR that recently that was changed to M+S tyres, not snowflake marked winters.

Use winters on swmbo's car but not on the D3, never felt I needed them. Used MTRs & road tyres at the same time/same conditions & didn't have any real problems with either of them. Thumbs Up
