Off-Road day at Tong

Had a good play at Tong (www.parkwood4x4.co.uk) yesterday, the course was very difficult indeed due to the wet weather and it was extremely slippery, anyone on road tyres had no chance! Nearly got into real trouble when I slipped sideways on a very slight incline and ended up wedged against a tree Embarassed thankfully I managed to get winched sideways by a friendly marshall and escaped with no damage but it was a close one!

Had great fun in the lake too, over the bonnet at the deepest point Very Happy

Close shave with that tree. Looks like the door handle could of easily bent the door skin in. Very lucky.

It was touching the tree and pressing the door skin slightly Shocked it was one of those situations you dread, I was inching forwards when it slipped sideways, any movement forward or back slid me closer to the tree. If I had been alone it would have been expensive. Considered winching myself clear as there were plenty of trees but i only had 1 pulley block and would have needed 2.

It has MT's but it was so sticky that even they struggled as the treads clogged up.

I had a similar situation only:
- 10cm between tree and car but any moving of the car would make it slide further to the tree
- road tires
- wife and 2 year old child standing next to the car
- remote area
- no winch
- no (decent) rope

A tractor pulled me out in the end. I put a big block of wood between the wheel and the tree to prevent it would slide towards the tree upon recovery. Afterwards I noticed that this wood scratched the alloys so I guess it was a good thing to put the wood there, otherwards the tree might have shaven the car's end.

very good lesson!
