I read a piece in the Observer yesterday about this - they think it will be 2 million signatures when its finished. The government have already said they are going to ignore it & carry on in any case. They have PFI & the Trident replacement to pay for as well as Iraq. They wont let go of this money spinner. And road pricing will be available to governments EU wide as the EU's satellite navigation system Galileo is being put into position as we speak. http://www.abd.org.uk/road_user_charging.htm 2007 TDV6 HSE 'Silver Lady'. With 'free' privacy glass LOL.
Taking the greenpi$$ is: Green taxing your citizens more & using some of the money to buy nukes.

according to today's paper there is over 1 million signatures, but the transport sec. Douglas Alexander has stated he will go ahead with trials regardless.
What was the point of the government putting this petition on their website?

I've tried too, but still busy...
I could be wrong (& if so, will no doubt shortly be put right!), but, as I understand it, the Communists in power are trying to push this through as an ADDITIONAL tax on the motorist. If it were designed to replace road tax & fuel tax, they might actually have some support.
With a few exceptions, paying for services "on demand" seems entirely fair to me. DGRR

I just worked out that it is getting a new signature every 2 seconds, judging by the rate the current signatories is climbing.
