wires behind grille - disconnected parking sensors

i'm trying to sort out a few glitches on my recently acquired '05 D3. The front parking sensor doesn't work - no fault displayed on instrument panel so was scratching head a bit.

Took grille off today to switch headlamps to european direction and found these two cables, both with identical female 3 pin sockets, not connected to anything. Would these be for the front parking sensors? I guess i need to take of the underside panel to have a root around but any advice most welcome

ISTR front parking sensors plug into a socket under the offside headlight on a RHD car!

Does your horn work? There are 2 on the d3 both mounted on struts either side of the grill area!

Maybe someone nicked your horns Whistle

In Land Rover language blue wires are for headlight circuit - so I am with Mikey's suggestion of driving lamps. Horns would be on purple wires to follow the 'Auxiliary circuits fused but not always supplied via the ignition switch' wiring rules.

you may have a point there. i did think the horn sounded a bit wimpy for such a brute. i can only see one horn mounted on left as i look at grille. perhaps i need to replace the other on the right , but the horn does work. incidentally, and trying to avoid thread creep, the parking sensor wring, can that be accessed without taking off the front underside panel?

mikey

driving lights - i have the xenons fitted plus standard fog lamps - i'm guessing that the driving lamps would be a mod that i havent got so perhaps these cables are just unused - yet? Very Happy

thanks fro replies

The wiring wouldn't be there, unless it was a factory order, or fitted later on in the cars life.

I suspect someone has kept the lights. It would have had holes left in the front bumper though, so this may have been replaced previously... And probably a switch on the dash, or an empty hole...

There should be 2 horns fitted to the car, a high tone and a low tone. Both are fairly common for failing. One sits behind the grille, as you have seen, and the other sits behind the passenger headlight (on a UK car)

And to access the front park sensor wires, the front bumper needs to be removed Thumbs Up

They definitely are the driving light wires... Not sure why they would be there though, as said previously.

On the plus side, you have a head start to fitting spotlights!

parking sensors

further to my prev posts investigating non- working front park sensors. had a root around behind bumper, found that wires not connected to front sensors, then found front sensors aren't. ie the holes are there and they have blanking caps glued on. what I thought were parking sensors are plastic caps.

not sure what happened in the past but my mrs wants them put in. so I have seen the sensors on eBay about £30 each.what wiring will i need for each one - it appears the loom is fitted as I have rear sensors and front fog light and I have seen an unused multi plug and cable loitering behind the drivers headlamp unit.

regards

nick
