Weekend on Salisbury Plain

My wife and I took our D3 out off road for the first time this past weekend. We had a fantastic time although we did get stuck and had to be winched out, we still had loads of fun. We went to Salisbury Plain, and I couldn't believe how many Byways there are to choose from.

I learnt a lot about the D3, and have come back with a bigger shopping list. The running boards do get in the way in the deep mud ruts. I've damaged mine, so these are to be replaced with sliders. Going to get some DuraTracs this weekend as well.

A small selection of photo's of the weekend.

Deffo worth loosing the steps, you could get some tree sliders instead. Thumbs Up

PS Are the tyres GG ATs? Not sure even MTRs/Duratrecs would have helped there as it's 3 tonnes vs a long boggy stretch. The weight will make you sink which will rob you of momentum which will make you sink as wheels try and dig in etc til you're stuck. Often easiest to realise you're not going to make it and whack her into R & back out of dodge. Or accept your stuck and summon help early. Whistle

PPS and loose the mud flaps, though they usually just break off anyway. Whistle

Yes those are GG AT's, and something else I learnt that day. Don't follow someone else blindly. Whistle The Defender I was following was fully kitted with full muds, diff lockers etc. so I didn't have a hope in hell in making it. Always check the terrain for your vehicle capabilities.

Yes I agree that the Duratracs would not have helped in that case, but in other areas my traction control was working overtime, so I think the Duratracs would have helped there.

I have all this sitting in the garage waiting to go on. It's just that I ran out of time to fit them before the weekend. Thumbs Up

Yes Mud Flaps are coming off this weekend. Thumbs Up

Rolling with laughter Yes I was like a kid in a candy store. Thumbs Up

They showed me around the warehouse, and all the goodies, as well as their workshop and some of the custom challenge trucks they were building.

A good day out, especially when I left with a boot load of gear. Thumbs Up

Great pics. Some would say if you don't get stuck ocassionally you aren't trying hard enough Laughing

Hoping to head to the Plain again in 2wks time with my other club, it's an awesome day out. You can go for days & not drive the same lane twice Thumbs Up

The sliders are great bits of kit...... 20-30mins approx per side but don't try it by yourself ..... am sure you've noticed how heavy they are!
