I use outdoors great Britain, its supported by Ordnance Survey and you can download whichever OS maps you need.
Think its around £2 but you get national parks maps free (or at least you used to)
HTH I started off with nothing and Ive still got most of it left.

Yes, I've been using "Outdoors Great Britain with National Parks" for a while both on my ipad & iphone.
As mentioned, you get GB map and all the UK's National Parks
It's GPS based so you don't need an internet connection.
Bought many of the upgrade 1:25k maps, not cheap but well worth it IMO.
I constantly use my iphone as a GPS with this set up.
THE best iphone/ipad app as far as I'm concerned.
...... always on the road less travelled 🚧

I've been looking at ViewRanger, which looks quite good. Not heard of Outdoors, but will take a look before I purchase.

I use 'Outside' its free, as are the 1:50,000 maps. Though it does rely on an internet connection to download the map tiles. There is some caching so you can use it in a limited fashion without a connection. Its good for route planningD4 SDV6 HSE 11MY - Gone

not trying to hi-jack the thread..
but will any of these work with a 1st gen Ipad as they dont have a camera
am I right in thinking that they need to have a camera function to "see" the sky
have still got an old laptop running windows ME and have memory map and a usb GPS and a PDA or is this just to old school only keep the thing for running maps

If you have a gen 1 iPad, all you need to make sure is that it has a SIM card slot for a 3G connection as it will have GPS built in.... Camera not required.... G4OC Secretary
