Can Using the Pre-Heater Cheat Kill your Battery? |
|
Hi All,
So I am at a hotel last night - Wasn't sure how the weather was gouing to Pan out, so when I gotr a chance this morning about 930am I nipped out in a break from conference and set the pre heater using the cheat.
12:30 - T/C arive to do the remap - I go to start the car and its slow engine tirnover from starter and then dead.
Forunately Alistair had a booster and we started it. The hotel also had a mini bus and a setg of decent jump leads.
However, I just do not know what killed it in the first place. Nothing was left on outside the Preheater Cheat. It had just doen 200 miles on the motorway.
My only previous problem with starting was with a rough start on cold mornings, no powere and a flashing batterty warning light. Switch off, switch oin and poblem was cured. Stealer could not trace a fault but I think this has been covered elswhere (excpet for the BAtt light)
Is it time for a new Batt?
Any ideas?

Hmmmm - tricky one. Reminds me of the joke where the bloke goes to the doctor and says "Doctor, every time I do this my arm hurts". Well, don't do it, then...... Disco 5 HSE Lux

OK - thanks guys
I blame the red wine. Anything posted after 10pm runs a risk of being deleted by the Red Wine.
So i guess its a charge problem, and perhaps a trip to the Stealer
Oh - look out, nearly 10pm, better post quick, or all is lost! again!

Search the site but bear in mind that it's only possible if you've got out of date software The End

Sli,
I know you are right, but 2 stealers reckon mine is up to date with software and I still have the options....its been to Stratton in Newport and LR in Taunton...both reckon its up to date....
I'm not pushing it with them, I like the idea that everything else it updated and the Pre heater is still available - naive perhaps...

Hi Swifty, Do you have any idea how much power the pre heat uses, I would imagine quite a bit and having it on for three hours seems a bit long.
Find out what the power consumption is then work out if you have over done it.
If your battery is only two years old, it should be good for a few more years yet, BUT this also depends on whether the battery has had a hard life.
