EGR'S blanked - car normal phew - oil light on now..?

Had the EGR'S blanked on my 55 plate d3 after experiencing the typical loss of power - car is running back to normal again.. Apart from the battery light stays on half a second longer and oil light seams to be sticking on for a few seconds after engine is first switched on - should I be concerned again or just a quirk..?

Just the cold weather and being paranoid. Mines does the same oil light goes out a few seconds later and battery light flickers even though I have a new alternator and has done it since day one. Once warmed up all is ok and lights go out almost instant on engine started.

Yes hopefully paranoia - as I had a similar feeling and light issue just before my alternator went - almost a year to the day..!

You haven't had an oil change done recently have you?

I only ask as we had a car recovered in last week with the same issue. Had an oil change done by another garage who used a spurious oil filter. 2 weeks later the bottom end failed...

It would maybe be worth dropping the oil and using a known good oil filter

Do you know what brand this filter was D M it would be useful to know as I am not one for genuine filters

Mate of mine builds drag racing engines and had a couple of fram filters that were restricted inside (bad batch ) it cost him big time as he had to stand the cost of the engine and build them again
He will never use another fram filter again

I don't remember off the top of my head. If I get a chance I will try and find out.

FWIW, Mahle is OEM for oil and air filters, and fuel filter is Delphi. Never had an issue with any of them Thumbs Up

I tend to stick to the LR badged or the proper OEM version when it comes to things like oil filters. It may save a couple of quid with others, but a slightly reduced oil pressure will kill an engine and they are quite expensive lumps of metal.

Others will say I am over-cautious - which is true.

these exact symptoms happened to me straight after the last service- took it back to garage next day and they suspected oil filter problem even though it was brand new - changed filter and not happened since

I had a 60k mile service three months ago at a main dealer so if the oil filter is changed on this service - I would assume its a LR filter...

I would also have assumed it would be a genuine filter that a main dealer would use. However, I worked inside a main dealer for 4.5 years, I know what goes on Rolling Eyes

For all it costs, I would carry out an oil and filter change using an OEM filter Thumbs Up
