Hi everyone,
I need to fit towing gear to my car but having searched on the forum and searched the web to see what is on offer I am confused about the electrics. Things have changed a lot since I did my Disco 2!
Some of the kits on offer claim to be a diy fit whilst others including this (genuine LR?) one state that "computer activation" is required.

Others say "software update" required, leaving me wondering what will happen if I just fit the kit? Will it work? Will it activate the light on the dash when operating the indicators, in short please help!

I strongly suggest buying the genuine wiring, it will fit properly, have the right connectors with the right grommets and a fuse holder with fuses and the wiring in the 12S and 12n plugs or the 13 pin plug will be encased in resin. If the wiring is what they're advertising in that famous four link then it'll be fine, looks like original to me and it's an ok price. paid £107 for mine.
As for the activation, it doesn't need to be. Activating it will only stop the suspension automatically raising when you use the off road settings. All the necessary lights will work as will the trailer light on the dashboard. You guys are gonna be busier than a test bench in a plunger factory!

the LR kit is a doddle to fit DIY. Allow half an hour including making a cuppa. ____
