Advice Please. on purchase of D3 54 plate SE Auto 7ST

New to this site... Have seen and test driven D3 with the above spec - history is ex demo and then one owner. mileage is low at 45K and was impressed at the auto transmissioN. Dealer is asking 16K - going back tomorrow to negotiate ADVICE PLEASE! Really tempted to buy but unsure whether low mileage is such a huge advantage - fsh shows servicing was non LR once warranty expired

thanks everyone for all the sound advice. I have decided not to go for it. now looking at a D3, 55 plate with 85,000. Again this the auto version TDV6 but lower spec inside the c ab. ut it does have air suspension. There is a towbar fitted and it has dink to bumper. The private seller has full service history and is asking 10K. Please advise on price against this mileage and what I should look out for at test drive. By the way, air compressor was changed recently but cam belts have not been replaced.

Thanks guys

Hello & welcome to the site.

The vehicle sounds fully priced; the guide price for the top model HSE that's 18 months younger but greater mileage from another post:
(attribution: Gary Elliott)
Land Rover Discovery (04 on)
2.7 TdV6 HSE 5d Auto
Choose a different version
2006/06
67000mls

Original Price £43,540
Franchised Dealer £17,630
Independent Dealer £17,120
Private Good £16,440
Private Poor £13,640
Part Exchange £14,230

Assuming that it has had the belts done at 7 years, then I'd be looking for at least a grand or two off. Low mileage on that age may indicate a lifetime of very short journeys. There's also the argument that a more-used car will have had new components by now. I appreciate that with memories of snow fresh in people's minds, there's the Winter Tax to pay on a Discovery.

Oh, and one other point to make is that the spec. on the early cars can be all over the place - check that the spec. matches expectations - think the main bits were xenons, leather & sat-nav, but sunroofs were optional. Check the wiki or await an owner of a similar-aged car to chip in.

16k seems pricey to me also. Shocked
Non LR servicing out of warrenty I dont consider a problem as long as servicing has been done when it shouldhave been. Low mileage could indicate lots of shorts trips which can cause more damage than higher mileage cars as engine never gets warmed up. A higher miler with motorways miles is prob. a better engine! Enquire why mileage so low.
There are loads of bargins out there so dont be in hurry to buy first one you see. Good ones often crop up on here if you can be patient. Thumbs Up

Sounds steep but i'm no expert.

We just paid £17,700 in December for our 08 D3 TDV6 HSE from a main Land Rover dealership... it did have 86,000 miles but its a large diesel lump... Got a years main dealer warranty, our next MOT is free with cover up to £750 for anything needed to get it through, two bottles of wine and some Thorntons chocolate...

I thought that was pricey still, but I guess not?
