Hand Brake Problem

Ok i may be loosing the plot here however here goes...

The wife did the nursery run during the floods and went through approx 2ft of water & when she got home the Disco packed in....No power or ignition.
The battery was charged over night and she burst into life again and left running for 45 mins with lights on and heaters to see if the alternator was goosed.

So i take it to get the battery checked & alternator and when i pull up and stop leaving it in 1st gear as its manual.....As soon as i remove the key the handbrake engages and the red P light is illuminated on the dash and wont go out..!

Any suggestions or guidance would be appreciated
Thanks

I believe on a manual if the parking brake hasn't been applied before key removal it will automatically be applied. Mine is the same.

Not sure what you mean the red P won't go out. It only goes completely out when the car sleeps. Maybe upto 5 mins I think.

Seriously.....!

I was starting to think that the brake might be applied automatically but never ever ever noticed this before.

Yeah the red P light on the takes take some 5 minutes to go off as i only noticed when the guys wanted to do a battery check.!

That's what my manual did, take key out and park brake auto engages & light takes a while to sleep, initially I thought something was wrong.

All sounds normal to me, on a manual the park brake automatically applies when taking the key out unless you hold the switch down and keep you foot on the brake pedal (and auto releases when pulling away on 07MY+). P light stays on for few minutes while the vehicle goes to sleep.

That doesn't work on every manual. Rolling Eyes
On mine if I hold the switch down and foot on pedal, the EPB always applies upon key removal.

You have to get the sequence right, I think it's foot on brake, switch down, remove key, release switch, release brake - something like that, normally takes me a couple of tries to get it right if I need to do it

Configurable in the CCF.

Find a member with a Nanocom or IID Pro to edit if you want it not to do it all the time.

I personally like this feature, so enabled it on my auto.

My manual does it as well as said the red p stay on for a little while once out the car and locked.
Mine goes off as soon as I pull away as the handbrake auto releases.
My other car an Astra which does not have a auto handbrake has rolled away a few time because I have forgot to put the handbrake on as the disco does it for me.

Apart from trying to make it sleep quicker, can anyone explain the attraction of leaving the parking brake off?
