Hill decent control fail / suspension lowered during driving

Hope someone can give me an plausible inut regards the problem, as my LR workshop can't... Sad

During normal driving, suddenly a warning "beep" and text "HDC fault" occur. Then after a few seconds a new "beep" and text "Transmission fault, suspension lowered" occurs. and yes, the suspension lowers.

Turn ignition on/off and problem disappears....

Appreciate any good inputs..

Thanks

Why does å height sensor give "transmission fault" ?

Sounds more like a brake switch or brake bulb problem.

Thanks for reply, but honestly, it doesn't give me more knowledge than my workshop : "we never heard about that prolem before. it can be several things, but our computer doesn't pinpoint anything wrong" Very Happy

It's the several things that prompts my brake switch / bulb thoughts. The brake light circuit goes direct to the ECU and a wonky brake bulb or sooty switch causes no end of issues. If you search the forum you will find that this fault and cure is not new!

It's the fact that modern cars like the D3 use the same wire for multiple signals, via canbus in this case but others are used too.

An error in one circuit can "fake" an error message for another Rolling Eyes

The D3 is well known for failed brake light bulbs and or switches to cause these mixed messages, not sure about height sensors, but I guess the same is true.

The other option is a loss of voltage, but you have not eluded to this being a problem as I guess the car still starts?

This is a fairly common 'fault' with Disco 3 and there are many threads on this forum suggesting how it can be cured Shocked
I recently had this annoying fault and how I cured it can be read here:

Thanks to various inputs and suggestions from other members Thumbs Up
Simple and cheap solution which you can do yourself

i.e as Robbie says change the brake light switch Bow down

Mine did something very similar, but initial message was "transmission fault, special programs not available" followed by suspension lowering. I checked the brake lights, cleaned the brake switch etc to no avail. After a while, switching off/on wouldn't always clear it, so I gave up and booked it in. Fault diagnosed as a faulty gearbox control module, and since then its behaved itself.
Shame that since that visit to the dealer, the parking sensors have had a mind of their own....

The key in a lot of these situations is the order in which the first errors appear. The OP had a different order to yours, hence the suggestions that it's either the brake-switch or bulbs, or a height sensor.
