My god, just a baby Rolling with laughter bit young for the disco aren't ya Rolling with laughter I was driving about in ford escort RS Turbos and Golf GTIs at your age. Well this is Essex after all Rolling with laughter. Nice to see someone of your age driving a proper machine Thumbs Up your insurance must be sky high, mines bad enough cause the wife has only been driving 5 years and that's with full no claims. Any way, PM me Thursday if you want me to pop over to you Friday, will gladly give you a hand.

Regards
Dave

Think AM would be better for me Thumbs Up

I've had my 5 silly cars before my 'proper' car haha. From my stupid tuned diesels, Abarth and 320bhp astra VXR before my old man volvo d5 and now this!

I need a big car for my business to carry around all my equipment. Plus my best mate has an old 90 so it's been a long time coming!

And I will do mate, if it arrives before then I'll give you a shout. Really appreciate your help Smile

Olly

If I were you two, I'd be getting the flush sooner rather than later, especially you, Dave.

A flush done too late is almost as bad as none. Dr Tranny may disguise the problems but it doesn't mean they're prevented from developing still. Thumbs Up

Olly, black smoke is most commonly caused by a split (or de-laminated) turbo hose, as Dave says, or EGR failure (searches should bring up lots of info on these). As yours is a EU3 model, EGR blanking is simple and highly recommended. Thumbs Up

Hi lost for words, thanks for the advice regarding the gear box flush. I know it needs doing Asap will hopefully get it done early part of next year ie Feb-March time. Funny you should mention egrs, I had mine done on Wednesday but my only question is about the smoking, it never did so does this mean there is another issue as it gave me the fault codes and my MPG went down to 17 also big loss of power on the lower range but since they were blanked all has been restored Ie power is back and feels like it's been remapped (it hasn't) and MPG is now up to 22 (town driving) but no smoke issues Question Question Question

Regards
Dave Thumbs Up

I wouldn't worry about it. The amount of smoke will vary so if the car is back to normal, the EGRs are highly likely to have been the issue. Thumbs Up

Ok, so I finally got around to adding the "Dr T". I was worried about doing the job ( I am am no mechanic ). But managed to do it in 15 minutes. I had driven the car about 7 hours earlier and then parked it so it was pretty much cold. As shown in filo's second picture on page 1 where he is pointing to the jubilee clip holding the hose to the cooler, I disconnected this and only 1 drop came out (a bit fiddly as space is a little tight). I have purchased a syringe and attachable hose/pipe previously for the job, just to try it out. So I disconnected the jubilee/hose, then inserted a thin pipe into the hose itself and pushed the pipe in about 2 feet (that's about how long it was). Then using the attached syringe I extracted approx. 80ml of oil to make space for the "Dr T". The "Dr T" is 59ml. I squirted the "Dr T" into the hose (now with space as I had removed 80ml), took about 1 minute. Then I put a very small amount of oil that I had extracted back in to top the hose back up a little. Replace the hose/jubilee clip and job done.

Here is the Syringe and hose/pipe I used

Here is the oil in the syringe that I had extracted (excuse my messy garage)

FYI, I have 7/8 sets of the Syringe / Hoses. If anyone wants a set, no charge, then please PM me, you can cover the postage (not sure what this will be, probably £2-£3 ish for the UK).

Milestone The most work I have done to a car in a while, usually stich up my dad to do it. Laughing

Hi Geoff

The car has 96k on the clock now, I haven't had it very long and would like to keep it for a good few years. The only symptoms I have are: at approx., 1400rpm around 35mph to 40mph ish I can here a slight noise from what seems like the gearbox. I can also feel it very slightly through the body. I don't go up any steeps hills so cannot really say what the effects might be if I did. The car drives really nice, smooth, smooth gear changes etc. When I brought it I had New Disks, Pads, Tyres all round, New front and rear D bushes and track rod ends etc, new timing belts and pulley/tensioners, and full service. I would like to look after it. I would like a megalush as by the mileage it must be well overdue and may never have been done before. The oil that has come out is black, I have it in a syringe (could I get it tested somewhere ?). Any advice would be much appreciated.
