I think you will struggle to find a sub 60k miles D3 in the lower tax bracket. Due to its age it would have to be doing very low miles each year.

agreed with GaryM. They do exist but I had to wait ages to find mine and this was last year. If anyone had a low mileage D3 who have just forked out for the belts might not be keen to move it on.

I have a 2006 2.7 td6 S manual with about 30,000 (mainly Guernsey miles - but regular mainland visits ) owned from new. I am about to get the clutch/flywheel changed but am also due a cambelt as well this year. I am thinking ( but only thinking) I might part with it....... If your mate is interested let me know ;there will be some import hoops from the channel islands to get to grips with but nothing insurmountable. I have no idea about the tax thing

They are out there I have just bought a 2005 's' model which when I bought it had 59000 on the clock, £10200 I paid which after haggling over the fact the belts were due and there was no record in the service history of them being done I contacted the main stealers that had serviced it throughout its life to be told they were done and they emailed me a copy of the receipt .... happy days... and its a lovely car

I've never understood the fixation with low mileage. In my book low mileage = short journeys and in frequent use which puts more wear and tear on the vehicle. Personally I'd rather have higher mileage and a well maintained car.
I have an 05 S manual owned from new with nearly 130k on the clock and she just purrs along. It might be worth your mate having a rethink in order to have a bigger pool to chose from.
As for the spec, S spec is great and gives you everything you could need.

I appreciate that this doesn't find you the vehicle, but another vote for the high mileage, well maintained option.
My D4 has 57k on it at less than 2 years old... I know that it will be around 95k, possibly even 100k when it's at end of lease but it's led a pampered life with servicing and tyres on demand.
Much of the mileage is stress free (on components, anyway...) motorway miles - the dealer can't credit how far I can go on a set of pads!
This will make someone a cheap (due to mileage) and cracking buy one day soon...D4 Commercial - 65 Plate, 2016MY

D1 300TDi... 2" lift, HD bumpers (both), detachable tow hitch, 9,500lb winch, 235/85/16 muds and plenty of other toys (gone to make way for the next toy...)

my brother ( on mainland) swears by high mileage (100,000 plus ) audis.... and has done well out of them.
on guernsey no choice but to service regularly (because of the short journeys) and take it on the mainland regularly (as with any vehicle bought here) .
the low mileage /high mileage issue could be put another way: - how much mileage do you want to get out of the disco and how many miles is a disco 3 engine expected to last for; factor in maintenance etc to work out your personal bang for buck ...

I don't have Parker's/Glass' guide, but £12K for a '54 plate S is "fully-valued" to put it mildly. My 05 S is only nudging 44K and I'd be surprised to get 5 figures for it, unless Britain was in week #3 of SnowMaggedon.Time flies like an arrow; fruit flies like a banana
