What do you mean by a heater fan resistor?

In most cars, they're on the passenger side, bolted under/near the blower fan. I've not looked on my RRS but I imagine it's in the same place. You may have to remove the glovebox to get to it??

Any chance he could have said 'heater fan relay'?

Robbie, the blower motor resistor allows you to select different speeds for the blower fan. Usually if the resistor burns out it only allows you to have it on full blast or off.

I'm not sure what the setup is on climate controlled vehicles or on the RRS/Discos but the resistor is usually bolted near the blower motor.

Not something I have come across in a D3, so this is interesting. The only bits I was aware of are:

Fuses
Blower relay
Blower control module
Blower assembly
Automatic temperature control module
Air intake servo motors
Stepper motors
Sensors

On top of this I have found issues with damaged harnesses and connectors but this resistor is not known to me. What does it look like and where does it connect?

The blower speed is controlled by the BCM:

Quote:
When the blower is required, the ATCM energizes the coil of the blower relay. The energized blower relay supplies battery power to the blower motor, which is connected to ground through the blower control module. The speed of the blower is controlled by the blower control module, which regulates the blower motor voltage in response to a Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) signal from the ATCM. To vary the blower motor voltage the ATCM varies the duty cycle of the PWM signal.

Sounds like the BCM is the resistor pack? I'm probably wrong but it does sound like it does the same job that the resistors do.

Foggy, have you got the part number per chance?

One of these:

Perhaps not the most accessible but it still seems a big bill for a £44 part.

Yep - that looks like a typical resistor pack. Is that different to the BCM?

That is the BCM. I associate resistor packs with the older (non-PWM controlled) systems but as it controls voltage I guess its purpose remains unchanged. As you say, it controls the fan speed just the same.

Thumbs Up

where is that located ??

I dont recall ever seeing something like that when I took the D3 to bits.

so, as I still have the heater system from behind the front dash, its quite possible Ive got one of those spare Thumbs Up

It is on the RHS of the heater system. I'll see if I have a pic.
