Had a similar problem with my D3 reduced power and had to switch off to clear. Take it easy and all fine but put the foot down and reduced performance. dealer said Erg's but it turned out to be the control rod on the turbo. Cleaned it up and lubricated and all was fine 20,000 milers later. My car sits for up to 6 weeks at a time as I work abroad and no problems so far either with D3 or D4.

I had this on and off for 2 years on my 59 plate 4 XS. I had the intercooler pipes replaced, new turbo put in and it still did it. Finally my main dealer (Hartwell Oxford - very very helpful) found a shorted out wire somewhere that they said had been there since build. Replaced this and... it still happened. Finally solved it by giving it back to Land Rover who gave my £4k against a new or used one - bought a 11 plate HSE.
So if you're looking at LR's stock of 59 plate Zermatt silver XS's with c60k miles on it and it has side steps, mud flaps and front & rear light guards - buyer beware!

Dealer confirmed TSB had been checked and all ok
It's not done it since so perhaps the D4 Auto RepairECU has rectified the problem Duncan

I had the "Restricted Performance' message and warning triangle last Thursday( MY12). No loss of power or any other symptoms though. I switched the ignition off and after 5 mins started up again. No warning or triangle.
Checked out the systems with the little BBS gadget but nothing showed up on there.
I'll have to wait for it to happen again I guess and call in the cavalry to check the codes. We're going to Anglesey for week's holiday on 19 April so if it happens up there, is there a recommended dealership in that area?

Not trying to be the 'doom sayer', but I was told for 2 years that it was a computer glitch and there was no problem. I'd switch off and 5 minutes later all was fine and it seemed to happen once every 6 months or so. it was only when it was coming up for 3 years old and the warranty was starting to come up that I started creating a fuss and LR started changing and replacing things.
It didn't work but they sorted me out eventually. If you google 'restricted performance' on a Disco, you'll find quite a lot of people with problems.
Just saying that in my experience, it is worth hounding your dealership big time.

there are many things to check with the p1247 fault code. had many issues with the CSOV(compressor shut off valve) which is bolted to the radiator pack on the drivers side. there is a vac pipe which runs all the way up the fan shroud and round to a vacuum solenoid valve on the front of the engine. if you remove this pipe let the engine idle for 3 mins it will start sucking a vacuum. lightly place the vac pipe back on and then remove you should hear a popping noise which is the valve slamming shut. if this does not happen or doesnt sound very convincing then the CSOV is sticking. also issues with secondary turbo solenoids and also vac pipe issues.
