Conrod bolt & socket spanner size?
I can not find it somewhere;
What is the socket spanner size of a conrod bolt of a TDV6? I have to order one I am afraid and want to do that ASAP....
1 have a size 10 With 12 “sides” spanner but that seems to be slightly to big...
Is it size 9?
We ourselves in our workshop use the size 10 with 12 sides often but that has a tighter fit on the bolts we have..
As I do not have a size 9 with 12 sides I can not try it..
Thnx in advanceBest regards
Harold

I think it’s a torx E socket
Easy to be confused
Or maybe it is a normal bolt

Hmm no, it is not torx
The small one on the left is a BMW item, perfect fit With size 10 and 12 side spanner in the picture
The long one is a brand new conrod bolt, looks the same but with the same spanner, far more “play” looks like just one size smaller, which looks rather odd to me...
Size off the new bolt head is the same as the still fitted OEM bolts..Best regards

As far as i can remember, use Torx Sockets - precise fit for me.
These are what i used on my engine rebuild. I cannot remember which particular socket size it was as i do not have the bolts anymore.
By the way, where did you manage to get the new bolts?

10mm 12 point socket works just fine. Never had any problems
If you really want to know, it's actually a XZN bolt
THNX! Best regards

I stand corrected, i must have used my Halfords 12 point sockets, and thinking back vaguely, i think it was from my 30 year old set which were all 1/2 inch drive, whereas my new Halfords Professional set only had a 3/8 drive in the 10mm socket and wouldn't have lasted the tightening process i assumed

I thought XZN was a female headed system, the tool to fit/remove being externally splined ?
There are a few special applications for a XZN screw and even fewer manufacturers of the sockets.
As I said, a basic 12 point socket works just fine, hence I don't have one. We use a 12 point impact socket to undo the ConRod bolts and a normal socket to tighten. Torque settings are 20Nm +45deg +45deg, so not exactly high torque.Joe
