200 km from Calais on way back this afternoon in the rain and the wipers stopped. Couldn't get them to go, got out and changed fuse (old looked fine), got 3 wipes and then froze again. Chaecked it again at Eurotunnel (long delays but that is another story) and power is getting to the motor as wipers would get half way across screen and then stick , sometimes on way up sometimes on way down. If i manually put them back they would then have another go when try again. Any ideas or is LRA for me?
THanks
P.s, fortunately it was dry on the M25! d4 HSE

If the motor is working and the wipers aren't, the splines are kaput in the wiper arm. If you move the blades independently, you'll remove the splined effect of the arms as they're aluminium on steel.

Thanks Bill, know what you mean about stripping, but stopped on their own and I have not shoved them back, only gently and no pressure, also they move together not separately so if they are stripped I think it is a consequence and not the cause...something appears to be interfering with their movement? d4 HSE

That's a bummer then Stick. Head scratching hasn't worked either. Good luck. At least it's pretty dry.
