Is there a noticeable difference between the TDV6 and the newer SDV6 at 6 spd?
Reason for asking
I've got a TDV6 but want a change
I've been looking for an 8spd for some time and cannot find anything that suits. I find something in budget but not to the spec or find spec I want and its outside of budget
so thought is maybe to look for the 6spd on a 60/61 plate and go higher spec

Chalk and cheese, SD V6 more resposive better low down torque smoother, faster power delivery with the Bi turbo I could go on. I had a D3 TD V6 with a BAS remap and it surpasses that too.

I may be wrong but at a 60 plate, I thought the SDV6 was the same as the TDV5 but with a DPF. I don't think they altered the power output.
I'm looking for a D4 and the ones I've seen advertised (59, 10, 60 plate ones) have been listed as having 245bhp and while most were TDV6s some were SDV6s.
The TDV6 was made as a detuned 210bhp for the commercials.
I think. Someone knowledgeable will be around soon to let you know for definite, I'm sure. "The quality remains long after the price has been forgotten." Henry Royce

Early D4s came in 3.0 TDV6 guise with 245bhp and some had I think 215.
The GS models and commercials could have a 2.7 TDV6 190BHP with a option of manual gearbox too. Though this isn't a available now. Now they are all SDV6 bar the commercials.
I believe you were right that they didn't alter power output between the TDV6/SDV6 change. Only altered when 8spd came out in MY12
Go SDV6 8spd if you can its an amazing gearbox. Also makes a more throaty noise in my opinion the 255 . And the paddle shifters are 8)

All the bits are the same in yours as the SDV6 bar the mapping then
Either get a standard SDV6 map on it or a BAS type remap and you will wonder why you didnt get it done sooner.
Well worth the money from other reports on here for the same setup FFRR Owner, very nearly became a D3 owner

Sorry to p*ss on your chips lads, but wasn't the initial D4 GS 3.0 TDV6 a 215bhp unit? I had one.
I now have SDV6 on 245bhp and tbh, can't really tell that much of a difference, unless you completely bury the pedal. If in doot, flat oot!!

You could have either a lower power (210/215 can't remember exactly) or a 245 highpower My 59 Plater was a 245 which is now gone.
I now have an MY13 255 8SPD. There is a difference I can tell now it is slightly faster and more progressive with the new gearbox. Though not huge. The 59 plater with 50k miles on was nicely run in though and sounded 2023 Ineos Grenadier 3.0 Diesel Commercial

I'm slightly confused now..... wasn't there only the TDV6 when they were released in 2009? I assumed (probably incorrectly) that they were all 215bhp.
So if the 2009 TDV6 is a similar output to my 2011 SDV6, what is the difference between the two variants? This DPF? If in doot, flat oot!!

GS wise when D4 came out 2.7 manual/auto
3.0 TDV6 Auto lower power (210/215) ?? One of the two
And 3.0 TDV6 Auto 245bhp
XS and HSE were all 3.0 and probably most were 245
At this time DPF was an Option (mine had it I didn't buy brand new- but had been specced DPF and 245).
Now all have DPF as standard maybe it was since the SDV6- someone will know. All SDV6 are higher power output too now. 2023 Ineos Grenadier 3.0 Diesel Commercial

It's further complicated by the DVLA in that I have a MY11 on a 60 plate and its an SDV6 but the V5 designates it as a TDV6. 2010 MX-5 2.0 Sport Tech PRHT
