I'm enjoying my D3 and I like the EPB (i know it causes a lot of issues), I've never had a car with an EPB before.
I live in Brighton a hilly place and it makes life much easier parking and hill starts.
The thing is how noisy should it be? I know this is a rhetorical question but please be kind as I am a new owner.
Mine makes a sort of high pitched noise and then a click when it engages. I've read about failures and are there any "tell tale" signs to watch for? Is there any preventative maintenance owners should carry out on a regular basis to keep the EPB happy?
Also how long do the shoes last? My D3 has 67k, do dealers adjust the EPB as part of the service schedule? Or do you have to "remind them"?
Any answers greatly appreciated.

Is it more like a strangled cat screech? If so epb actuator may be fubar'd
Otherwise, just give it a clean and adjust.

From all the posts I've read this post ......
http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic50875.html
..... appears to be the most complete discussion of the EPB and it's weakness.
Andrew has done an outstanding job !!
As it's essentially a sealed unit, I don't think there's any preventative maintenance you can do to the EPB itself, but it would be worth keeping an eye on the shoe adjustment.

Thanks for the info, I am paying a visit to the dealer tomorrow for a sticky front passenger door lock and headlamp adjustment. I think I'm going to kick up a fuss about the noisy EPB too, I have a LR warranty so I'm going to use it.
I paid a lot for the D3 and as such have high expectations regarding customer service
We are off doing a lot of driving over Christmas and the new year visiting family/friends and I don't want to be stuck somewhere because of the EPB.

The EPB operating is audible, but should be a faint whirr then click.
If the noise is very loud (embarrassingly so) then the EPB needs attention. 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti
