The car & I have different rules & restrictions
This is not Fair.
I'm not allowed to raise or lower the suspension when any of the Doors or even the Tailgate are open - can't be trusted/health & safety.
But my car itself has full authority from Land Rover to lower itself (all be it with a warning f**t) whenever it wants, with Doors open or Tailgate lowered.
Reason for 'rant'....
Just been unloading some stuff out of the boot and the car decides it wants to be nearer the ground - dropped about 1/2 inch with my daughter under the tailgate (Toddler). The Tailgate tapped her on the head and didn't half make her jump - she shouted a whole load of expletives at me, but got away with it as neither of us understood the words she was saying. It's the car self levelling its self, as you take the weight out of the back it compensates. Ideally it wouldn't level its self until you shut the tailgate.
It does make you jump the first time it does it, my advise would be to keep children well clear, hopefully it only shocked her and didn't hurt her

No injury, but she was well cross with me and the car. She is 2 1/2 and has a reasonable vocab, but it all came out as excited giberish, along with a very cute wagging of a finger to tell me off....
What I'd like is the freedom to lower the car when I am in control, aka key in ignition and engine running. I find it a real pain to have to ask someone to shut the door so I can lower the car for them to get in/out. Thats odd, my Disco 3 will let me raise or lower the car when the tailgate is open.
My wife loves sitting on the tailgate whilst I raise and lower the car.... its great fun for all of 3 seconds
I must admit though that the car has trapped its door before on my fence by lowering itself whilst I was getting out of the car.... I do think this is very dangerous and especially when you think that little uns could get seriously hurt

Only movement you do get is the self levelling... and this seems to happen whenever you unload the shopping from Sainsbury's too... handy but not good with little children and midgets hiding under the tailgate.

It always concerns me when I park on a road with a sharp camber or alongside a slope, i.e. the sort of situation where if you open the door too wide the corner of it will ground against the pavement/bank etc. I just have worries of the vehicle suddenly decided to lower itself as I get out and grinding the corner of the door into the pavement before it apologetically raises itself having sensed the obstruction.
