engine problem

hello owner of discoveries i'm new member and i would like to ask for a problem i have with my discovery 3 27L TDV. the car was ok and when i drive to the main road the engine lamp switch on and the car stop after few second .
The garage told me that i need new engine and they can't fix these engine i have .What do you thing was happens.

What happened when the fault light came on. Did it make a noise? Was oil on the floor? What year is the car? Any other messages on the dash? Was it misfiring? When was the last service? What was done on the last service?

Sorry you have a problem. Ask the garage what went wrong to break the engine. Then tell the Forum. Thumbs Up Went for a job as a human cannonball. Not the right calibre.

no noise . no oil to the floor the oil in the engine was clean and the water the temperature was OK . The car is 2007 .it doesn't start when you try to start you that the engine can't go round just make a noise (tik tik)try to start and after nothing .

i don't know if is the oil pump .That it come in my mind maybe is broke the drive belt in the engine is that possible ?

Yes its very common hence the reason people normally change their oil pump when doing belts, iirc 07 onwards is the fatal year.
