| Replace stereo console with a new multimedia console |
|
Hi there, I am new to the site and I am wondering if anybody has replaced there radio with a new multimedia console. I don't have the factory fitted sat nav and I like the space it provides. I have a 2005 disco 3 HSE, thanks

If you have the HSE spec then replacement of the radio nit is not as straight forward as it appears - what you see in the centre console is only a head unit not a full stand alone audio unit ..... There are connections, optical IIRC , that run to other parts of the vehicle to perform other functions so the head unit is integrated link wise into the vehicle.
If you had the base spec D3 then the audio unit is your traditional car stereo unit , totally stand alone and can be readily replaced as indeed I have done  , have a look in my gallery for some examples of what can be done

Hi
Check under your drivers seat first of all to see if the car is amplified there should be a low level amp colour black or a silver amp if you have a hi- line system, if you have the hiline system you would have an HSE with harmon kardon Logic 7, wording should be imprinted on the tweeters at door level.
If you have the Hi line system then as said you cannot remove the head unit as it isnt just a headunit it is the command unit for other items in the car and is hooked up into the fibre optic most system and cannot be removed.
If you have the ordinary unit with no fibre optic then you can replace it, if your looking for something a bit different why not look into integrating a new mini ipad into the dash all you will need is the proper lead to do this which is available in your country and a bit of time and patience to create a fibreglass mould for it to sit in

 Hi simoniz, I’ve just been looking at your gallery with interest and noticed you have had 2 installs.
I am very interested in having a go at it not necessary a TV unit but I do want the sat nav and reversing camera as well as Bluetooth for phone. Do you have instructions as to how to go about the install as well as the images in your gallery? I noticed a PDF file but it was unable to be opened. Where did you get the surround from as well? Any information and help would be greatly received. Cheers mate.

Ok had few folk asking the same so I am hoping to do a How To .... for the wiki so all can use for the future . This weekend having a D3 weekend as need to de-stress from the work load right now , so hopefully can get all the pictures taken then sit down and write it up.
Happy to help you opt anyone elsewhere this .... Whilst my gallery shows 2 installs I have done others from forum members , must be about 15 install by now
