On my way home lst night I was flagged down by an elderly gent who had got his car stuck in a field whilst taking his dog for a walk, his wife had just got out of hospital and she was sat in the car panicking. I agreed to help but then noticed a Isuzu Trooper in the field too, the guy explained that the Tropper had come to help but had got stuck too as the field was just a bog.
I thought oh well in for a penny in for a pound and said that I would try to get the car out first. I was covered in muck and couldn't believe how soft the ground was. I hooked the car up, sat in low range and decided to go for it. The Disco pulled him out and around the field like he wasn't there.
Then for the Trooper. This guy had some decent tyres but had just spun the wheels so much that he was almost down to the axle. I explained that I would get straight in front of him and give one attempt but that there was no point in me getting stuck here too and we would have to get a tractor. I hitched the Trooper up, same proceedure, this time the D3's TCS grumbled a bit for a few seconds then out came the Trooper and around the field we went.
There were a few claps and cheers from the now gathered crowd and the Trooper driver was amazed.........so was I!
I was on standard road tyres, not sure if the 2 diff locks did the trick as I noticed that they both locked in (rear one first) or if it's just that the D3 is soooo capable on tough terrain.
Does anyone know if the Isuzu Trooper has an owners forum? We could post this over there to show what they are missing out on.

Rear diff-lock will have helped but it is often down to the ability of the driver, as you said the trooper driver probably gunned it as soon as he felt some slip, worst thing you can do!

I forgot to mention that the Trooper driver tried to give me instruction on how to pull him out.
I said "excuse me? who is the one who got stuck in his 4x4?"
He shut up
CFB - I can't really take any praise as the driver. As I was told at the LRE. Driving a 4x4 well is 50% car and 50% driver. In a D3 it's 90% car and 10% driver - he was right! The car deserves the praise.

good on you with the Trooper.
But re the car...just wondering...if that were in his 10 year old smokin Rover....do you think he would have accepted a tow out of the mire from a D3 .... or do you think he would rather wait for the hour or two and pay the cost of recovery????
What Would Really Do?????

I've seen that one on the A5 around Brownhills, arrogant little to$$er, managed to get the TC light on for about 3 miles solid beating him through the roundabouts - he wasn't happy at all! 8)
