Faulty satnav module?

Hi all, I am new to this forum but trawling all sources at the moment to see if anyone has had similar issues.
I took my LR3 through South Africa for a few months recently, while there I had a local satnav disc to get me around, all worked fine. On my return to the UK I replaced the disc with the original UK version. At this point the screen goes blank? The system starts up and goes past logo screen, but beyond that nothing.. Sometimes it's black, sometimes very grainy, but in short, zero navigation.

I've taken it past the dealer and they suggested changing the module? Replacement is £2k excl labour and vat!!! Censored Really?

Might be worth mentioning that while in SA the car was at a dealer to investigate a dash warning about water in fuel, while they had it hooked up I am pretty sure they were adjusting software versions?if that's possible...

Any added info appreciated, still in shock at LR's quote to get this fixed... Shocked

Cheers

You need to tell it what region it is for the nav to work ( in the car config file )

Did the dealer in Africa have it before you tryed the map ?

Thanks for the reply wiggs!
Series of events: UK disc working just fine, took car to SA and replaced UK disc with the SA version. This was from a LR dealer in Cape Town (pretty sure a copy!). This SA disc also worked perfectly well while I was there.
Shipped car back to UK, inserted my original disc and that's when it all went bad.

I am not sure what the dealer in SA was doing when they were investigating the dash warning, I believe he was trying to clear the error from the log as there was no water found in the fuel, subsequently suspect its a faulty fuel sensor that just sent a dodgy message.

If you know how to reset config file I will give it a bash, I asked LR dealer here if it might be a region issue and I got a blank look in return.... Whistle

I got quite excited there for a mo. you're right though, appears to be same region.
The guys at LR say they hooked up a module from a working satnav and mine worked again..... So I am sure they have diagnosed the problem correctly. What got me though is searching for similar issues seems to come up blank, I can't be the only time this has happened?
Are there any steps I can take to give it a hard reset of some sort? Perhaps when there is no disc in the system at all.

You could try a hard reset ( instructions in the wiki section )

If its only the DVD unit from under the passenger seat that's at fault.... You can pick them up for around £150

If there is a message in the middle of the screen I can't see it, but perhaps I should add more info here.
The system starts up, I have access to the 4x4 info, and can generally access all the functions, except when I need to access navigation. If I try input an address I will get a message saying 'no maps' after some time. So the nav screen itself (where you would usually see the street map) is the only screen that's black. Also there is now a 'no GPS' icon in the top left corner.

I don't know if this applies, but with Audi nav disks, the update maps also contains updated software and once you go forward you can't go back so an older map disk generally won't work. If the map year you had in SA was more recent than your UK one, then you may be able to "fix" it by getting an updated UK disk. Probably cheaper than a sat nav module, especially if you can borrow one to test the theory.

YMMV

If you can get the 4x4 then the message won't be there .

Is your disk in good condition ? .... It does sound like the DVD unit under the seat could be at fault

What happens if you put the SA disk back in?

In reply to all:
SA disc is 2006 Denso
UK disc is 2004

When I put the SA disc back in, I get more detail. Am able to input and address but system responds by saying 'no available streets in your location'. I get a blue map with some drop pins, assume its last known position was at sea so that's what it's showing.. Also shows the no GPS icon in top left though.

Sounds like an option wiggs. That 2004 disc came as a 'freebie' from the dealer... Realised there was no disc in the car when I was about to drive it away.
