Tyre Choice - Hard Decision - Wow! GG AT's brilliant
I recently bought a D3. We live off-road where Shropshire and Herefordshire meet. Previously I had a D2 fitted with General Grabber AT2 which were brilliant for winter.
We live at 650 feet asl and have to climb to 900+ feet asl to get to a main road (well sub B road) Its a tough climb in winter. The tyre choice was so difficult with much mixed messages out on the net.
I bought a new set of Pirelli Zero's M+S a month ago and already had problems with mud after they hauled out the apple crop and also did not feel brilliant in the first frosts.
So last week I bought a set of the new style General Grabber AT tyres in Ludlow and they are equally as good in mud and frost as the AT2's were on my old D2. Obviously the D3 is a major advantage over the D2, but wow, what grip on wet mud and wet roads. They are also a lot quieter on the motorway than the old AT2's were. So far, very pleased
Hope this helps others facing the dilemma on tyre choice2 x D3's (Twins)

Thanks for reply. I am new on here, but wanted to add a comment as I spent ages looking at all the alternatives.
For me the choice was a winter tyre as we need that little extra where we live, but, it is a major expense and one I wanted to get right. I spoke with local tyre dealers and they all advised the AT.
Now I have them I am pleased all round, dry or wet roads, slippy mud covered surface and frost, all good on 1-4 and 1-7 steep slopes out of reach of council maintained area.
You will not be disappointed .2 x D3's (Twins)

Just swapped my D2 on General Grabber AT2's for a D3 this week & have been wondering what to replace the tyres with when I need to - really interesting to read, thanks

A recent convert to GG ATs here, they have acquitted themselves pretty well so far.
The main downside is more drone at around 50mph but isn't too bad at other speeds.
Has just returned 28.5 over 590 miles including a trip to Manchester.
I am however running them at +3/4 psi over normal.
All on a totally standard D3 with only EGRs blanked, a BAS Remap, a smidge of two stroke and a shot of TSL. (Remap, EGRs Blanked,Silicon I/C hose) from BAS, (Torque Convertor, Compressor, FL Wishbones, Alternator) by WD, Belts by Newbury4x4, Megaflush+extra cooler by GRGB, Diff+Transfer oils, ARB Bushes, Fuel filter, Fixed Towbar, Remote FBH.
