As per the title - I see that the SE version of the V8 is available again for MY12, same price as the diesel SE

My stealer just offered me a trade-in of R520k on my 2010 D4 V8HSE with 35k on the clock and R80k discount on a MY12 D4 V8 HSE!
Looks like they need to dump v8's again!
Now i'm undecided what to do???
I also looked at the SE option but discount only R30K.

I've just bought the D4 SE V8.
Bruce, I got a R65k discount from LR Umhlanga, but they did say it was a cancelled order, although that could have also been salesman talk.
I must say the 2012 SE spec is great (maybe even better than my ex 06 HSE). Off the top of my head the only things you miss out on are cameras all round, plusher leather, more speakers for the sound system and voice command (probably some other nav stuff as well). It's got the rest.
I got R205k for my D3. After 6 great years I got about 40% of my purchase price back, which I thought was very good considering it was a trade-in.

TPMS(new...was not aware but saw it this morning)
different rim
So, not sure if HSE is worth it....but maybe for just R50K difference.....

Hi Guys, exept for the extra power, what would be the advantage to the diesel? My dealer said it still needs a service every six month and 10.000 km.

Depends on how long you want to keep the car.After MP things like no turbo's(2),expensive diesel filters,no DIESEL injectors and no cam- and other belts at 160000km's,start to matter LOWDOWN grunt in the petrol is probly better in sand,and then the sound.....costly though :rolllaugh:No turbo lag Range on the diesel much better with std tank Big Country RR,NL Split Charge,FR Sump Guard,TP Monitor,BAS map

Yes, just for the V8-sound I want it. But my diesel D3 with 17inch wheels does very well in sand too. Anyone that can comment on the 19 inch wheels performance in sand?

Is that on the Diesel? Is the service department not making enough money, surely motorplan dictates sevice intervals?
19" could work on sand but all pressure on driver I would stick to 17" maybe 265/60/18 but not 19"! But how much sand driving are you really going to do in the time you own the car??? A few mods... and keeping it all running...Faultmate MSV2

As the first to reply to this post from outside South Africa, and as driver of D3 V8 which I adore, you guys are so lucky to have D4 V8 options.
They roll out of the factory here,but we can't buy them...

When i moved from a D3 (TDV6) to a D4 V8, I was slightly hesitant.
However after owning the V8 for some time I must say even for the manageable fuel consumption penalty - the petrol vehicle is the better drive in every respect.
SE vs HSE - the biggest benifit I found is that the rear aircon makes a notable difference when travelling in hot weather - the front passengers do not need to freeze to keep the rear passengers cool, so everyone travels in comfort (especially when you use the third row seats).
Unfortunately the service intervals on the V8 are the same as the Diesel 12000Km/6 Months (while been "free" they are still a bit of a pain)
Ohh and the V8 sound is very well muffled

There's folk here in UK that'll do "acoustic tuning" which enhances the soundtrack no end. I'd guess they've reps in SA?

Tallmat a friend of mine in SA wants to change from petrol V6 to V8 D3, any idea what real life fuel consumption on your V8 say in town and motorway? A few mods... and keeping it all running...Faultmate MSV2

My 2010 D4 V8 HSE gave me 15.6l/100km combined driving, 11.8l/100km from JHB to DBN at 125, 12.8 DBN to JHB. Town only,no highway at all, 18.6l/100km.
new D4, done 300k's mixed driving, 17.7l/100km.

I agree - my D3 4.4 HSE is averaging 18.2 around town but get on open road and she drops down to 11.5 / 12.2 l/100 Klm. I yearn for the open road ! Wouldn't change to diesel though Life always good with a Landy
