Key programming or repair |
|
This is a follow on from an earlier post. I have 1 fully working key, lucky me. I then have the second key that came with the car but this one will not charge (Autologic diagnosis) or has failed (Main agent diagnosis). I bought a 3rd key off ebay which looks unused but of course is programmed for another car.
Question1 Can this 3rd key be reprogrammed, (the main agent cannot do it). If so where can I get it done.
Question 2 If it cannot be reprogrammed how do I open up the fob as I may be able to transfer the charging bits or battery from key 3 to key 2.

Do a search on here and you will see how to replace the battery - about £9 from EBay and a fairly easy job.
If a key has beeen coded / used I understand it cannot be recoded to another vehicle.
If it is genuinely new anyone with a Faultmate MSV2 can do it - there are several people on here with them - although I guess Bodsy will be your nearest.

Thanks Quite correct if the key is from another car, that is it has already been programmed, it cannot be reprogrammed. This info from LR main agent and independent auto key specialist .
The fob case can be cracked open a bit brutal but no alternative. The problem with mine is that the soldered joint on the battery post had fretted, so a touch with a soldering iron solved the problem. There is no such thing as a 1 off problem and fretting is a well known solder joint failure mode.
The fob is held together with elastic bands at the moment whilst I decide what adhesive to use. i will probably go for silicone but need to achieve a VERY fine bead, any suggestions.
