The battery warning light comes on intermittently and generally goes out after half an hour or so of driving. I've booked it in at the dealers as it's on an extended warranty and they were quite keen to say it's probably the alternator. I've had a look at the battery and its a Varta with a Land Rover logo which from looking at the the crud all over it, it looks as if it's the original. Bearing in mind the Disco3 is 6 years old the chances are the battery needs replacing? I'm still going to try and get a new alternator for free but was wondering on whether alternator failure at 87k is typical? Either way I'll be replacing the battery, not at Land Rover though, they wanted £290 fitted! 1964 Series IIA SWB Truck Cab - gone

My alternator was changed at about that mileage under warranty - depends on the use of the car as it does get covered in mud when playing!
If your battery is 6years old then it has done very well! Is it a 950AH or the smaller (850?) unit? If it is the former, then it is almost certianly on at least its second one.
The new batteries from LR are about £200 + VAT - they are a new type, with the price to match! Mark.

My alternator failed only last week at 88,000 and I presumed it was the original, so kind of sounds typical. Mods:
Front Fogs + Halos
FBH Remote Control
The 1st Ever RRS Modded Grill
Garmin Nuvi + D4 Surround + Reversing Camera.
D4 Steering Wheel.
Rear Boot Spoiler.
Twin Brake Lights.

I'm not scared, I'm outta here.

Hello. My alternator went at 78000. Original battery tested and deemed healthy and still running. Too many older Land Rovers to mention
