Transmission wear, when do you notice this?

Hi All,

I have noticed - in the last couple of weeks - a small 'tapping' noise when pressing the brake pedal in order to put the auto lever into D. Never noticed this before, and it made me think, what are the symptoms of a - soon to be - failing transmission. I am running up to 200k kms and 6 years of service, and I am looking dreadfully to the moment when I will have to revise the transmission.

Any ideas on that?

Also, anything I can do on that 'tapping noise', now that I noticed it, it makes me nervous ... *blame me, not the car* Smile

Cheers, Bruno.
 Rock on.

If its the single little 'tap' you hear as you press or release the brake when its in Park, then its the Park Safety Interlock. Its designed to stop you engaging a gear without the brake. Perfectly normal.

Gareth,
it is indeed a single 'tap', but I have noticed it not in the 3 years of use until the last couple of weeks.
And I did knew what it was also Smile I was just wondering how it was that I noticed it now.
My ears should get worse by growing older, right, not better.

Aljo, it is indeed from the locking pin.
 Rock on.
