Reduced Engine Performance |
|
Hi
My wife noticed this morning that our 08 Disco 3 was very sluggish to respond to acceleration. We swapped vehicles and the Disco is definitely taking a few seconds to catch up. I also noticed when driving up hill with cruise control on that she lost speed, from 70 to 65, though at the top of the hill speed would return to 70. Shortly after I got in the reduced engine performance light came on the dash.
I'm not mechanically minded in any way so don't have a clue, I have it booked into a dealer on Friday morning. Any idea what the issue could be and would it be okay to drive to the dealers on Friday morning?
Thanks
Mark.

Did you notice excessive black smoke? I would check air filter, and also the turbo piping as they have a habit of collapsing, Another possibility is the fuel, if it was filled up with a cheap quality fuel, or even contaminated fuel that would produce similar results.

Hi
Sorry I forgot to mention in the initial post when we changed vehicles that my wife said there was quite a bit of smoke.
It was filled up yeaterday afternoon at motorway services and drove around 60 miles without any problems, it was only this morning that the problem occured. I normally do try to be sure we're getting quality fuel, I stay away from what I'd consider suspect stations.
Thanks
Mark.

Probably be the air filter blocked or turbo piping if loads of smoke, one of the first things I did was swap the paper one for a K&N filter.

Usual suspects
Large hose from intercooler to inlet split
Egr valve failed
Turbo actuator rod stuck
If its any of the above it will be safe to drive Club original turbo
161k and counting
general AT's, oval timer, blanked egr's, silicone intercooler hose's

Thanks for your help. It's booked in to the dealers in the morning, lets hope it's something that Warranty Wise will cover.

Update:
It was both EGR valves. Booked in for tomorrow to have them replaced.
We were moving house and had it full of boxes, daeler said it was okay to drive home, took it out side of the dealers, went back in to check on warranty paperwork and when I came back out the electric brake was stuck on, thankfully it happened at the dealers. So new brake cable is on the cards too.
The odd thing is that when I went out yesterday morning the EGR fault seems to have fixed itself. Power seems to be normal and the warning light has went out in the dash.
Claims for both have been sent to warrantywise, hoping to hear back from them very soon.

r u sure it was not a badly adjusted rear brakes shoes as you seem to have a EPB issue. If you've had them done recently then there is a "proceedure" for the correct setting from LR which non LR guys (ie yer local halfords etc) will not be aware of.
BTW did yer park brake make a scream when you tried to release it, coz it might be the module and brake cale to replace

So I got an email from Warrantywise yesterday.
They authorised the repair of the handbrake cable, but not the disc and pads as they had not suffered a failure. The garage advises that they needed to be replaced with the cable, is this a necessary replacement?
They declined the EGR claim as they are of the opinion that they are simply worn out - have come to the end of their servicable life. I have undue wear and tear on my warranty, so my question is at 90k should the EGR's be simply worn out?
Sorry for the questions.
Thanks
Mark.

I had EGRs replaced under an extended warranty (non LR) about 3 1/2 years ago. What does the paperwork for your warranty plan say is covered/not covered?
Have other forum members had EGR claims rejected because they are servicable items?
