Disco 3 noise - not from engine - worse on deceleration? |
|
Hello chaps,
Can I get a steer on this one please?
Have a whiring noise/trans noise on a 117k Disco 3 (2006 2.7 Auto) I've just bought. It's there all the time on the move but not while car is ticking over in neutral. Seems worse when the car is slowing down. I've got my tech looking at it tomorrow and wondered if my fears of a potential gearbox, transfer box problem might be accurate.
Any obvious areas he should be looking out for based on your past experience would be very helpful.
Thanks,
Ed

could be a diff. where is the noise coming from - if it sound like from the front passenger footwell then could be the front diff.
could be a number of things - depends on the exact noise etc Duncan

Well we'll maybe know more tomorrow, as always hard to know where it's coming from when you hear a noise like that from the drivers seat.
Just wanted a few pointers, like you say, a hard one to describe, but it's a drivetrain rather than an engine pulley type noise, I'm 95% sure of that.
The cars due a bit of spend to make it how we want it, but this might tip the balance if too serious a bill!
Bloody cars!

When my diff recently went the noise was not there when accelerating but very obvious when decelerating. It could well be that on your car and appears to be much more common that I would have expected. Mine went at 96k miles.
