I think the last 6 digits means "19 Oct 2012" which would tie in with 2013MY production date.  21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Yes it can be I have done one local to me, it not a simple fix though you need all the bits screen, IHU cable and some new connectors, I have one problem to sort out and it is all working.

At what cost Flack? The delay on the 2012 is maddening and LR wont even accept / admit there is a problem!

OK.
I wrote to Land Rover saying that as an owner of a 2012MY I thought it was pretty irritating that there was no software update available for this model year to bring it up to the 2013MY standard. (As I understand it, the changes are software and not hardware - with the exception of the DAB radio?)
They have told me to take my car to my dealer and LR will then see if the update can be applied. I would imagine the updates are the standard ones to fix the blank screen problem and not the full update.
However, I will report back and say what was done.
What the LR chap did say is that if there was a LR part number for the update, then that would be simpler. All I have is the software version from a 2013MY car, which is not a LR part number.
So, looking doubtful, but you never know!
Interestingly, the LR chap did say that if I was still unhappy with the system then he could authorise for the whole system to be replaced (screen and modules), so that might then bring it up to 2013MY, but I doubt I'd be so lucky! 2016MY Landmark + RSE

Hi Chaps,
would love to know if there is indeed an upgrade to the 2012MY on the infotainment system that is software based, as we currently have flown out a mechanic from the authorised franchise holder for our territory (as there isn't an agent established yet here...long story) to perform our services on both our Disco 4 HSE MY12. He is here till this weekend and would love to get it done if it is available, through the diagnostic equipment that the chap has brought with him.
Please advise thank you!

Looking forward to some news of progress on this. My recently acquired 2012 D4 hse is unbelievably slow when it comes to data entry for such things as postcodes, etc.

I get the feeling that LR are avoiding this issue.. My MY12 is very slow indeed when entering navigation data entry..and not having the ability to enter POI is another bad state of affairs.. in fact a bit of a joke..
I suspect the "fix" is just too costly for them...

Having sent a hand written letter to Land Rover, my car has been at Marshalls in Cambridge to be looked at (3 days of fiddling about).
They found that the touchscreen in my early 2012 MY car was very slow compared to a later version of the same year. They even took the whole touchscreen and infotainment modules from a donor car and everything then worked much faster, like the 2013 car. (Even the loan Freelander system was infinitely faster than mine!)
New parts are being sent from Land Rover, so hopefully later this week the lethargic nature of the system will be gone.
I do not believe that it will be updated to the 2013 system (auto zoom, custom POIs), as I am told that is out of Land Rover's control. I will report back once everything is done.
It does sound like any of you with a woefully slow system, you should take your car back to Land Rover and get the system replaced. Whether it is faulty hardware or software I cannot say at this stage, but LR seem to acknowledge that my system is faulty.

And they noticed a massive improvement in entering navigation data. They even took two videos - the first of my system and then with the donor kit installed. Post code entry was near instantaneous.
