Hi Guys,
2006 HSE D3 58000 MLS.
The red brake warning light came on today (luckily on my drive) and found hardly any fluid in the reservior. On checking underneath, brake fluid was pi----g out of the (corroded) pipe fixed to the floor just above the rear diff.
Can some one tell me if this is a body off job or is there a work-around. Also if the body has to come off what other jobs should be done?
Does anyone know of a garage in Lancs or nearby who they can recomend who is used to taking off the body?
Unbelievable that this can happen on a six year old car.
Thanks in advance,

To replace the full front to rear pipes its a body off job! BUT if you have a handy knowledgable Indy (Strathearn - Disco_Mikey ) they are able to cut and join the corroded section with new pipe just above the diff at a fraction of the cost!
search on here, its mentioned a few times

What he said ^^^
The pipes can be joined just above the centre silencer, and repalces the only parts of the pipe that really give any problems. One one car, I have had to join them above the downpipe, as they were pretty well corroded, and had to go further back to find a good bit of pipe to join into.
Definately not a body off job, if not a little awkward. Allow 3-4 hours depending how far forward they need joined
If the body ever does have to come off, then it's a no brainer to have the brake pipes at the same time
FWIW, I have seen the pipes burst on a car 3 months out of warranty, and sent an RRS back to a dealer to have the pipes replaced under warranty My D3 Build Thread

I can replace/splice your pipes without taking the body off as DM says its 3 to 4 hour job but a lot cheaper than taking the body off.

Didn't the last MOT pick up the corrosion? Would've thought you'd got an advisory for it

Hi and thanks for the replies so far. This forum is great for getting impartial advice so you can go to a garage pre - warned about the likely cost.
Regarding the mot, no, I was'nt given an advisory about the rusty pipe but this is what comes of getting a free test at Stratstones' as part of the cars first (to me) service. Wonder what else they've missed?
Thanks again,

Hi - sarumlight
No advisories on the sheet - the "technition" said the car was a "good un".

I had this problem when it failed at the MOT testing station when the brake pipe burst whilst it was being tested. You don't need the body off but the route the pipes take means its a very fiddly job. Some parts of the route are invisible to the eye hence the tester could easily have missed the corrosion. LR made them out of steel and seemed unmoved when I wrote to them and complained
I had the main ones replaced with copper piping so no more nasty suprises and left the flexy pipes alone. 2005 D3 TDV6 HSE

Hi - sipops,
Just for the record, I slid under the car with the suspension in high and saw it right away. Mot testers are human and can miss things. I once took one of my works vehicles in for test and only when it went for a service two weeks later it was found that the tester had failed to spot that the rear axle was only connected to the body by the springs, the shock absorbers were broken in half!
What concerns me more is that a major safety item, i.e. brakes can fail on a newish vehicle and wonder if Land Rover will suffer future litigation.

My vehicle passed the MOT in September but the independent I use has said the brake pipes should be replaced. He said the cost would be approximately £180.

If you coat the brake pipes with grease they never need replaced.
Sold my 17 1/2 year old Disco 1 recently on which I had coated the pipes with grease from new and the pipes were almost as new.
