Great write up with pics
I know on page 2 or 3 someone else asked about the brass union ~ to be inserted collar end first "into the hard plastic tube"

But in the write-up there's no mention of it. Did I miss that during my read?

Thanks all.

Has anyone got any pictures of the unit in place with the cover fitted ?

I had mine fitted at Roean Landrover in Telford just before Xmas and whilst looking around the motor today (first decent day this year) I saw the pictures at http://sdrv.ms/161tmRH

To me the pipes either look mis-routed or is this new one a codge ?

Hi IDS, would you recommend Roean to up-date the suspension software?
I have an AMK compressor to fit and will need it doing.
Roy.

Went ahead and fitted AMK compressor, no need to update software it works perfectly now job done in a hour without a ramp.

Hi, there is a little tube insert that stiffens the plastic pipe for push fitting as this gets a little hot it is needed to ensure sealing.

It comes with the kit, just warm the pipe in boiling water and slide it in flared end first.
Be sure to change relay too as recommend.

Regards, Roy.

Thanks for the tip, but my confusion was for which tube?

the 8mm inlet pipe,
the 6mm exhaust pipe,
or the 180 degree loop pipe that goes into the valve block

Then I believe I understood it as cutting or 'trimming' the air suspension feed pipe

It will work but you should get the software updated as soon as possible. There are supposed to be operating parameters that differ between the Hitachi and AMK. And one or two reports of the "Carlos Fandango" LR where the back end is jacked up compared to the front. Not my favourite look Wink

capricdragon,

If I remember right, both of the pipes that feed into the actual compressor from the backside of the vehicle have the brass "collars" inserted in them. Both of the pipes that feed into the dryer assembly from the front of the vehicle do not.

But there is only one brass insert in the packet that I've got?
Which looks to be for 6mm pipe?
Which I would venture to suggest fits in the cut end of the pipe on the car (exhaust pipe?) that the green collared straight union connects to?

Ahhhhhhh Ok will keep that in mind. Thanks
Everything is pretty straight forward except for that darn brass insert.

Yes, the old compressor has inserts in the rear two pipes/fittings.

I would assume LR would not expect you to reuse these inserts, so the question remains, there is only one insert in the packet with the new AMK compressor, where do we assume the insert goes?
As stated earlier my guess is the cut pipe on the car that the green straight connector fits to, as if you look in the green fitting, you can see a brass insert inside the pipe that is attached to it already...

The insert goes into the smaller diameter pipe, the one you are supposed to cut the elbow from.

It goes in ridged end first, and pushed in all the way until it is flush with the cut end of the pipe.

It is worth using Mikey's guide along with the LR installation instructions:

http://www.disco3.co.uk/gallery/albums/use...cement.pdf

[edit: just noticed the above is North American, not sure if any differences so here is rest of world:

http://www.disco3.co.uk/gallery/albums/use...al_(1).pdf ]

Mikey's photos are far better and he explains that cutting the pipes is OK!

I've just come in from fitting one and the small items Mikey misses are covered in the LR instructions, and vice versa.

That's interesting. I was under the impression that I had the AMK compressor. I have service receipts from the previous owner showing that the compressor was replaced in 2012 and the software was updated. Yet, I'm fairly certain that I had pipes with "elbows" and brass collars on both pipes going into the rear of the compressor. Sad

According to the LR TSB there are two versions of the AMK compressor, an earlier version and later version.

You can tell if you have a early or late AMK from the pipe exiting the rear of the cover.

If it comes out horizontally with a pipe pushed in, it is new type (cover removed here):

If it comes out at an angle, pointing upwards with a connector pushed on, it is old type AMK (pipe arrowed at the top, illustration from TSB PDF):
