Intermittent EPB problem

Hello guys. I've been following this forum for a couple of years now whilst owning 2 Disco3's and have found the level of expertise fantastic, so thanks for that.

Just recently i have developed an EPB fault where there is an almighty squeal (presumably the motor??) as i apply the brake. The brake has successfully released with the e/m cable and the fault warning clears after a second re-start of the engine. It has happened 3 times in the last 4 weeks and I would appreciate any advice on how to fix this before it manifests into something more sinister.

On my previous 05 model i had a case where the brakes locked on with no squeal and the e/m release cable could not lift the brake. That turned out to be incorrect adjustment. The current car is an 07. All three recent events have taken place when i have applied the brake on my drive and fortunately not whilst at traffic lights on the ring road! The unit works and sounds OK the rest of the time.

STOP USING IT! Until you have checked and adjusted the epb shoes (instructions in my link below)
Hopefully you won't have knackered the actuator as that is mucho moolah!

Thankyou for such a swift response. An excellent document you have put together, but the application of my mechanical skills is poor, so a trip to a garage will be needed as it seems more technical than my 7lb hammer can be trusted to fix!

Mine did the same. Adjustment maybe bought me a few months but in the end she went.

New unit now fitted.

Hoped the best for adjustment only, prepared for the worst with actuator unit. Good to prepare as diagnosis is actuator. At least it didn't stick on catastrophically on a busy road!
