D3 Transmission oil

Embarassed Rolling Eyes Why is the transmission oil so expensive? In Australia they are selling the oil for $100; 00 per litre and they say I can only use Land Rovers oil. I didn’t know they made oil. It all seems a bit smelly to me. I talked to a mechanic and he asked what was so special about the oil that it should cost that much. That is my question, what is so special about this oil that it is going to cost nearly $1,000; 00 to have the transmission flushed and oil changed? Big Cry

G'day
I think Ford use the same spec fluid and sell it alot cheaper. It all comes from ZF in Melbourne as far as I know. It might be worth ringing them to see if they will sell direct. I am in need of a flush and filter change and still looking for a good place in Newcastle to do it. All4x4 want around $1100 but I'm not sure how much fluid they can change as they don't have a flush machine
It could be worth getting together for a bulk-buy? I'll make some calls when I get a chance this week and post the results

Cheers

try ZF directly, have authorised dealers throughout the world selling the same oil that they supply to LR with the oval badge on it, can also buy the OEM pan filter and a conversion metal pan filter which is a lot easier to fit and also only needs a new paper filter rather than the whole pan filter Thumbs Up

BTW yer looking for ZF Lifeguard6 ATF

Thumbs Up

Thumbs Up Hey Chimpy, I know Gerry Wubbels Pacific Hwy Gateshead have all the proper equipment to do a full flush and transmission service. You can ring them on 49422755. The information I got from The dealer up the road was that Gerry is the only one around that has the equipment, not sure if that is true or not. Thumbs Up

dont need any special equipment for the oil change/double flush unless you're lucky enough to have someone local to do a power flush.

have a look at the thread just posted, simple case of having the car plugged in to IDS to check the oil is up to temp and not higher.

then drain existing and replace with new (before changing the pan filter), then run the car up to temp after going through the gears, then drain, replace pan, then refill Thumbs Up

There was an oil available, made by a German company which met all of ZF/Ford specs. Cant remember what it was called, will try and find out. Dont know if its available in Oz, but it was 35 euros for 5 litres. Even with the shipping cost ontop, its a great deal cheaper than LR's oil

I have used the Fuchs oil instead for the last 40 000km , with great success.

FUCHS 4134 are used by other brands in ZF boxes where it will work for LIFEGUARD6 or FUCHS 4400 which work the same as the Lifeguard6+ OR 8.
This Fuchs oil are used by BMW guys in the same box.

I have twice flushed my box with FUCHS 4400 and now also added a SHUDDER FIX additive.

how did you go with this/ i was quoted 2000 for full flush and he tried to justify this by saying it was 80 bucks a litre. so i called Graeme Cooper and he said he could do it for 1100 - which includes steel pan and filter - its a major pain to get there but i figure with that kind of cost saving its a no brainer
