Straightening steering wheel
Hello. Been a while since I moaned about my steering and stuff!!
My early D3 has had LR inspections, recent work and lots of quality alignment stuff done but nobody can find why even though the car drives straight, the steering wheel is left pointing - about 10 o'clock direction.
I know some of you don't mind this and some hate it. Being someone who does technical drawings for a living, it drives me mad to be honest!
Question is - if everything is straight under the surface, can I not just undo the steering wheel, lift if it of and put it back straight on the cog thing so it sits straight?
Some mentioned sensors and stuff that may cause problems???

I cannot see that if the wheel was moved it will have any detrimental effect as the car is running as it is and the wheel / spline position is not going to effect anything.
Assuming that the wheel is currently correctly aligned on the spline, two little marks line up, the issue is that the whole geometry is running mis-aligned, the steering angle sensor is always partially turned for the zero degree position for you to achieve the straight ahead position
when the alignment is done, the steering wheel needs setting correct to the 12 o'clock position, and then the track rods adjusted to achieve the correct track and 4 wheel alignment.
Its not a big job and any 4 wheel alignment should be done this way, I paid my Indy an extra £20 as part of my service to have mine corrected Altox GSM FBH controller thread

just as beanie says , marks on steering column and steering wheel should be aligned then geometry set up
