Alternative part numbers for injectors

Hi,

I've just been informed by Land Rover that i have a sticking injector and 5 running at minimum Sad

Of course they want a small fortune for new parts but I understand there are alternative parts out there, can anyone let me know part numbers please and or a good place to buy them from

Cheers

Sladey

You could be in luck, I have 6 sat in my utility room, genuine from a main dealer that have only been in an engine for 150 miles!

There is one potential problem, they have been sat there for a year now, it would prove wise to have them tested prior to fitting. I believe Woody found somewhere that will do this.

If you are interested then let me know and we can discuss the finer points! Thumbs Up

Not sure who told you £500 each plus VAT, I'm sure it is closer to £250, although you do need the fitting kit (washer pipe and bridge) at around £50 plus VAT, whether you went for new or second hand.

I have dropped you a pm, you should maybe delete your phone no from public view Thumbs Up

I would also have a good read on here first before parting with any cash, there are several instances where new injectors have been bought, swiftly followed by a new engine as the diagnosis has been wrong. I think Character and Woody are the two case I am thinking of that are documented.

From experience, if 1 is gone, chances are the other 5 will be too. Best bet is to take them all out and have them checked by a specialist.

I had a set tested, they flowed fine, and was no leakage. They then stripped the injectors down and all 6 nozzles were badly worn...

try two stroke oil first, i know one car with sticking one (non opening one) and 2SO cured it.

flooring it sometimes helps to... but maybe many people are scared to do it.

try 2SO, search the forum to see the dosage.

1:200 is the usual proportion (1 liter 2SO to 200 liters of diesel = 0,5 to 100= 0.25 to 50...)

Many thanks for the help guys Thumbs Up

Just collected the LR from garage and the exact wording ion the report is:

No.1 Max, 2-min, 3-min, 4-min, 5-min and sticking, 6-min. Recommend replace one injector and retest.

She's done 90k and had been running badly (misfiring and stalling when cold in the morning) but since returning from a blast on the motor way at the weekend it seems to be running a bit better (still not perfect mind)

I'm wondering if the underlying main fault is more likely to be the fuel pump?

Any suggestions greatfully received

Andy, just a thought or two, you say you have only had it a few weeks, was it a garage or private sale? If from a garage may be worth pursuing them? I was also wondering if it may possibly have been misfuelled? That can cause all sorts of fuel system problems, oh and I have an hp fuel pump lying around as well Whistle Whistle

dont regonise those trim levels, should have a PO fault code stored along the lines of "balance an max level"

Is that a LR dealership or a garage with a non LR specific diagnostics kit.

DAVE, BTW unless you store the injectors upright, to ensure the fuel stays in them, you'll need to refurb them as not sure whether the parts are available for Seimens injectors, hence LR moving over to someone else for the 2011 MY Thumbs Up

Why would you need to re-furb them? Confused They have done less than 150 miles, so nothing will be worn. And what difference would it make with fuel being in them or not? Rolling Eyes

That was what I was wondering about, what if you don't run your car for several months (as used to happen with me when working away) you don't need to remove them or anything. It is also why I would insist on testing immediately before selling though. Thumbs Up

As a general point, what happens when the injectors start to fail?

I.e. does fuel consumption go up - I'm not talking about fubard injectors, just ones that are aging.
