Just got my 2005 D3 (65k miles) back from the service and I had asked them to investigate a noise I have noticed from the rear. I had a hunch it might be the dif and it turns out it is.
The dealer wants £1k to replace it, I do have AA waranty which runs out soon but just wondered what the options wold be if I didnt have the insurance?
I havent checked with the insurer to see if they will stand the replacement but its in the policy and I have had the vehicle serviced at the dealer simply because I know they wont pay out if they can avoid it so it was worth the extra £'s I guess.
I have had a google round and cant find any replacements online unless im not looking in the right place?
Also what are LR doing producing vehicles that fall to bits too early? I had to have the suspension re bushed last year, apart from a couple of times this vehicle has had an easy life, only been properly off road a couple of times and nothing extreme. ..... Sorry just needed to get that off my chest!

Surely if it's covered then get it done under warranty.

So here is where I am at the moment.
The dealer is swapping the diff, the insurance is mostly covering it and it's going to cost over a grand in total.
I have found a company in the midlands who would do a recon of the diff and pick up the vehicle and charge in the region of £700.
I'm starting to wish I'd got a shogun
