Fault code C1A13- 64 pressure not decreasing when venting gallery can be set if the new compressor was installed without updating the software.

I have also seen this code when a new (3 month old AMK compressor) started to display it. After checking/overlay the wiring & check the rest of the system out & contacting Landrover technical about a possible software issue, putting on another new AMK compressor sorted it.
I also know of another, with similar symtoms.

I have a feeling this may be a software issue, as the new compressor draws half the amps on the exhaust valve circuit, I assume the new software has been written to allow for this, but maybe when the compressors have been in service for a few months they might fall outside spec & flag this code..... too early to tell, but no doubt there will be a raft of C1A13-64 codes soon if this is the case. It could be just the odd AMK compressor at fault. But the one I tested the exhaust valve was working & dropping the pressure, it's just the software flagged a problem as it wasn't happening as quick as it would like.

Hello, is there something new about this?

I have amk fitted and it worked about 1 week like a charm, now it gives C1A13 code all the time, i have tried old hitachi sofware and same thing happens. I also have check wiring ecu to compressor with multimeter and look connectors-> all in good condition.
I am running out of ideas about this.

sorry for my bad english =)

If you have the latest AMK software installed & your wiring is ok, then most likely a faulty amk compressor.

Looking at replacing my compressor as its taking ages to fill the system causing the orange light. As mine was one of the early D3s (MY 2005), its the original compressor, what make would it be? Are the replacements all the same regardless of year of model?

Thanks guys

If the part has failed, they tend to cover it.

For instance, if a caliper has seized, it is not covered. However, if the caliper has failed, then 99% of the time, it will be fine

If the compressor has burnt out, or is not building enough pressure, or so on, it may not be covered. The compressor they covered for me had failed Whistle

I don't know the ins and outs of your specific claim, but usually works for me Thumbs Up

C1A13-64

Hi there.

I have replaced my compressor with the new model without updating the software first.
I am now getting the C1A13-64 code and the suspension warning light is on.
After 4 hours and 600 dollars at the dealership they cannot find the problem.
They went ahead and updated the software but that did not clear the code.
Is it simply because the software was not updated immediately?
Is the compressor now damaged and will I need to replace the brand new compressor?
I am at wits end and do not want to pay for any more diagnostic work at the deanship and would like to have the truck back up and running.

Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated.

By "dealership" do you mean a LR franchise or an independent ? If they sourced and fitted the part, then I would expect the issue to be on them if it turns out a new AMK is needed, especially if they didn't complete the job by updating the required software. That code of course could mean that you have a blockage of some sort in the "venting" system or a faulty sensor.

argh

the new compressor was fitted at an independent. the code was on and they could not find the source of the problem.
i then went to an actual dealer who in turn spent 600 dollars of diagnosis time to tell me they have no idea what the problem is.
very frustrating

Tricky one. I would be inclined to go back to the LR dealer to confirm which things on the LR hit list for that code that they checked and ruled out (blockages in vent/pipework etc) and if that all checks out leaving the compressor then you may have a faulty one. I seriously doubt you caused any actual damage without the right software, but your independent shop should have done that or fessed up that they didn't have the tools to complete the job. Where did you get that actual compressor - LR parts counter or eBay ?

The part was bought on Ebay but from a LR dealer.
The mechanic I used was only used as he is beside my warehouse and it is a very simple instal.
He should have installed with the software yes. The dealer I purchased from said it certainly could damage the unit if the software is not installed as it is a different unit with different voltages etc...
Now, as this fault comes up and the dealer that is doing diagnostic could not find the problem, do I accept that as the unit is now damaged and purchase a new one or do I continue on with diagnostics and see if it is a situation that can be remedied?

I need to move on in some way, unfortunately it is a problem to figure out what to do next at this point.
Also, is the unit repairable if damaged from improper installation?
So many questions....

Hi roverrover,

i suggest your compressor is still working (even if you have warning light), right?

The service manual says:
"A situation has been identified where corrosion or contamination may be blocking the air suspension compressor exhaust muffler causing the vehicle to not lower and possibly store Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) C1A13-64. A new dryer desiccant gives improved durability by keeping the system dry to
prevent further corrosion. A new muffler with an additional hole will allow any residual corrosion debris to escape."

The AMK has a different construction than old Hitachi model. So far i know there is no exhaust valve installed at the AMK, but the exhaust pipe is still used. Simply disconnect the pipe, clear ECU & test. This could be one idea.

Just to be sure, check:
1. if the pipes are properly connected (there are some small pipe changes necessary to connect AMK)
2. check the wire harness for oxidation
3. if you need to check if the compressor is running, simply connect the 2 "big" poles on the relays position for a few seconds - beware, if you see sparks, disconnect immediately - there is problem

FYI - AMK is running properly also without the sw update (my experience).

Don't be afraid, you just need to find a smart mechanic with logical mind. Thumbs Up
