how do i fit a ps2, xbox or xbox 360 nto my discovery?? |
|
i know ths might seem a little bit geeky but i want to pimp out my disco with a games console in the dash board (top glovebox)
i was hoping to make the top glovebox into the main unit with a single din motorized tv and a tray that pops out when the glove box is closed,. same with the disk tray,.
i know this might sound a little far fetched but what things will i need to do this and will it work from the 12v cig lighter and how would i wire it up?
also i dont actually have y disco until wednesday but i have a little time on my hands so i thought id do some research
so if you know the dimensions of the top and bottom glove boxes and the tray where the sat nav usually sits this would be brill
thanks

Ok so its not as bad as it sounds since I have Xbox360 in my Disco for my boy.
The first thing you will need to sort out is a decent power source since the games console with not work without a pure sine wave power inverter.
I have one of these http://www.maplin.co.uk/pure-sine-wave-300w-12v-inverter-228623
You will have to power it directly to the battery with a really thick cable and in line fuse, again Maplins is a good place for these. Mine is now located in the rear near side of the boot where the removable tow bar normally goes, this allows any standard 3 pin plug to be connected so great if you need to power any 240v item on the move!
I actually have mine running in to a Rosen roof mounted DVD player which then feeds into my front SAT Nav screen and its far too big to put into the dash board, it was easy when I had my RRSport since it simply fitted under the rear seat, not so straight forward in the disco since the seats drop flat to the floor. No big problem for me since my boy is the only one that sits in the rear, I simply fold down the passenger side rear seat and put either my Xbox or PS3 on that.
Hope this helps as a starter

You will need to wire the inverter straight to the battery, I suspect it would fry the wiring if you attached it to the lighter so don't try it.
Saying that if you want to go down the PS2 route I would recommend something like this listing
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/playstation-2-wi...500wt_1199
I had something just like this for years and my lad loved it, the PS2 works with a simple transformer that can plug into the lighter, this listing also includes a screen and seat mounted carrying case, well worth looking at to get you started in the world of mobile gaming!

this might be spot on,. it would be much easier than fitting the 360 but the 360 would be better for games and everything,.
this might need some deep decision making time!!
doesnt the 360 fit in the lower glovebox then? thought that might be big enough,....?
oh and i already have a 2din stereo for the radio so wouldnt this, another screen, the xbox and rear headrest tv/dvd players overload the battery?

The fan noise level and power consumption of an xbox 360 is quite spectacular. And the power supply is the size of a house brick. If you want to mount it discretely you will need to get rid of a lot of heat...

Hi
There is a company that we deal with that does all the kit for mounting games consoles into vehicles
they do small 240 to 12 volt converters, remote turn on kits and specialist timed delays so that it remembers where the kids left of when they are playing a game.
Now for the life of me I cant remember what they are called as they were taken over by a larger company last year
but I can do a bit of digging and see who it was that took them over
cheers

The company was big cat I think! And agree 100% about a pure sine invertor, they tend to buzz and blow up else!
