Day running lights
Picked up our 9 month old D4 today and am very pleased with it.
Just one question at the moment (before I ask the dealer and possibly make myself look stupid!), how do the day running lights come on or do they have to be activated by the dealer? They don't seem to be on unless I turn the light switch to the sidelight position. Or is it that the car doesn't have drls? It's an HSE.
Thanks

The LEDS in the headlamps are your side lights, not DRLs. There is an accessory DRL kit available which fits in the front spoiler under the foglamps ish but it ain't cheap.

Officially they aren't DRL. EU law says all new cars must have DRL but the D4 officially wasn't anew vehicle it was a facelifted D3 with loads of tweaks so gets round the DRL issue.
There is a DRL kit available but I think it is about £600 maybe 500. It's on LR accessories website.
I'm not sure about programming the car to have your LEDs on all the time acting as DRL. not sure if it's possible.
Some people tweak the wiring so they come on with the ignition.
Hope this helps.Ian

Drls need to dim or turn off when in night mode ,so having them wired so permanently on is illegal.
I'm thinking of doing this mod to my already twice opened headlamps but need to get me head around how to wire inside the headlamp unit itself.
I'm thinking of using the flexi led strips so watch this space lol

but as we are talking about the sidelights on a HSE and not actually DRL's, it would not be illegal for them to be permanently on - and as Wiggs said it is a configurable option

Thanks for all the replies guys! You have clarified what the manual fails to do (typical LR manual!).
I will leave it as it is as I don't think SWMBO would be too impressed if I started messing with wiring etc on a car that has cost and arm and a leg!
